    Downton Abbey

I went to metacritic to check out the collective reviews on The Cape. They weren't good.

Fortunately, I noticed some show called Downton Abbey in the premiering section and it received a collective 94. It's British TV export that they're showing on Masterpiece Theater on PBS, and it premiered last night in the US.

It was excellent and I highly recommend it.

Oops, mods please change the title to Downton Abbey so people don't google it's pornographic distantly related cousin.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Good to hear. It is on the DVR and will be watched once I have all the episodes.

We watched it last night ( I have been emasculated by my wife and Pelagius' influence). It was very good. Why are the brits so good at these costume dramas and we aren't?
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

There's finally a thread for her.
I have nothing else to say at this time.

They aired the first part of "David Copperfield" tonight and that was very good. It has Daniel Radcliffe ("Harry Potter")(Soooo dreamy), 1999. Rough life, great bits of Maggie Smith and funny British quips. "And if you ride over my turf again, I will knock your bonnet off! And trample over it!"

I am like the board sourball tonight. This isn't really anything at all about Downton Abbey but about Masterpiece Classic.

Okay, monkeyman, where's the Masterpiece thread? (There could be one and I'm too lazy to look for it. This came to mind and I decided to drop it in.)

Well I was thinking it was about time you spread your wings, asserted your inner cultural snob and started your own thread. I know it is a little scary, but I think you're ready for it.

Seriously. No big deal, but I was hoping you had some news about the next season of Downton Abbey and so was disappointed.

I'm usually not high on British Victorian dramas (and I loathed reading Jane Austen in high school), but I'm really into this. I still have the finale left, and I can't wait to watch it.

I think it's interesting they made Thomas a sympathetic character in the pilot, but spent the rest of the season making him look like a sniveling prick.

It is only the first season. The second one doesn't come out till this fall in Britain. To be shown next January on Masterpiece.

PBS announced they'll air all 8 episodes of S2, starting in late January.

                              I can't wait*!

(*-not accounting for the fact that they aired in England over the summer)
