I see you got Charley Crawford down there with you."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Have you seen Lonesome Dove? A remastered version that looks great was released a few years ago (previous dvd looked taped off tv). That one is probably my favorite western. Great book too.Originally posted by Moliere View Post3:10 to Yuma - Fun and entertaining movie. Very well done even in the small aspects although having Christian Bale as a cowboy kind of threw me off. The ending was also pretty dumb but not dumb enough to ruin the movie. Probably won't watch it again for a while but definitely worth the time.
Tombstone - This movie was probably pretty cool back in the early 90s but it's interesting to see how raw and unedited films have kind of become. This movie was a bit over the top with the music and the story was just too polished. Definitely fun to watch and Russell/Kilmer do a good job...especially Kilmer. I had totally forgotten that this movie had made the line "I'm your huckleberry" famous and it was a good surprise to hear it the first time. Perfect line and delivered perfectly by Kilmer. The montages of the Earp's going after the bad guys got a literally LOL from me due to the cheesieness of it all.
Once Upon a Time in the West - So much potential but a big time yawner. Just too much pause in the movie to make it flow well. I fell asleep at least twice and this was while riding the bus...which is a feat for any movie. It is a classic western and deserves that title, but what was about a 3 hour movie could easily have been 2 hours or shorter without losing too much.
Unforgiven - Wow, this movie is now by far and away my favorite western. Raw and real with some great acting and some serious storytelling. I can't believe I hadn't seen this one before now. I'm actually rewatching it just to pick up the small little things that I missed on the first go around. This definitely desreves all the awards it won.

I just powered through Dumb and Dumber To. What in the world? I could have easily written a better Dumb and Dumber sequel script and I've never penned a script before. There were about four original gags and the rest was a rehash of gags and jokes and echoes from the original. The alleged daughter of Harry was super hot, though, so that was cool.
Now watching Rocky III on the 'flix. :rockon2: Just as I typed this, I looked up and Rocky says to Apollo: "You got me curious." and Apollo replies, "You've got ME curious, Rock."
That homoerotic chariots of fire scene makes a little more sense now. *
*OH SNAP. I didn't realize this is the movie that coined the clunky newscaster saying "Hard words from a hard man" that was mocked on Waterboy with Captain Insano- "strong words from a strong man."

Why would you watch that when it has gotten such horrible reviews?Originally posted by Commando View PostI just powered through Dumb and Dumber To. What in the world? Yep Moliere Unforgiven is definitely an all-time favorite for me too.
My kids have been loving the Dreamworks movie Home for the last few weeks. I gotta say despite its bad Rotten Tomatoes score to me it seems like a pretty solid kids movie. Some good messages about facing your fears and some decent Rihanna tunes -- not sure what makes it worse than all the animated movies that are better reviewed.

It was on the HBOGo featured flix and I just pushed play... I just pushed play.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWhy would you watch that when it has gotten such horrible reviews?
In fairness, the two leads are kind of fun to watch even if they're not doing anything and there were a couple parts that made me chuckle. Not the best use of my lazy Sunday, but I didn't have anything going anyway.

Unforgiven is also one of my favorite westerns. I recently rewatched the Coen brother's remake of True Grit and liked it more than the previous viewings. Still not in the same category as Unforgiven.
For fans of Unforgiven, another western to consider is The Proposition (2005). It's an Australian Western that stars Guy Pearce, Danny Huston, Ray Winstone, and Emily Watson. John Hurt has a small part. It's violent without being gratuitously violent. From it's Wikipedia page: "Chris Barsanti of the Film Journal International called it "the finest, strangest and most uncompromising western to hit screens since Unforgiven'.“Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory.”

The Wild Bunch is pretty great. Sam Peckinpah was the director and you some of the influence he had on Tarantino.
Can't wait to see The Hateful 8.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

One of my favorites from recent years.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostI saw The Descendants the other night. I remember seeing commercials for it on TV when it was released, and it didn't catch my interest. Wow.
