      • Rogue Nation was crazy. I think it has the most action set pieces of any film I've ever seen. The sheer volume of them eventually persuades you this is a good movie.

I'd have to see for myself, but my instinct is that that alone would likely eventually persuade me it's a bad movie.

              • I liked Rogue Nation. Not as much as Ghost Protocol, but I still thought it was a decent flick. Then again, I generally like Cruise films.

So you watched 87 minutes of a 90 minute film and then just said, "bag it, i'ma outta here"?! That's funny.

For an action film, it had a good flow and was more tightly woven than most. I liked it.

                          • 3:10 to Yuma - Fun and entertaining movie. Very well done even in the small aspects although having Christian Bale as a cowboy kind of threw me off. The ending was also pretty dumb but not dumb enough to ruin the movie. Probably won't watch it again for a while but definitely worth the time.

Tombstone - This movie was probably pretty cool back in the early 90s but it's interesting to see how raw and unedited films have kind of become. This movie was a bit over the top with the music and the story was just too polished. Definitely fun to watch and Russell/Kilmer do a good job...especially Kilmer. I had totally forgotten that this movie had made the line "I'm your huckleberry" famous and it was a good surprise to hear it the first time. Perfect line and delivered perfectly by Kilmer. The montages of the Earp's going after the bad guys got a literally LOL from me due to the cheesieness of it all.

Once Upon a Time in the West - So much potential but a big time yawner. Just too much pause in the movie to make it flow well. I fell asleep at least twice and this was while riding the bus...which is a feat for any movie. It is a classic western and deserves that title, but what was about a 3 hour movie could easily have been 2 hours or shorter without losing too much.

Unforgiven - Wow, this movie is now by far and away my favorite western. Raw and real with some great acting and some serious storytelling. I can't believe I hadn't seen this one before now. I'm actually rewatching it just to pick up the small little things that I missed on the first go around. This definitely desreves all the awards it won.

Selma - I was worried this one would end up being way over the top...thankfully it hit the perfect tone. It did start out a bit cheesy but the story itself really doesn't need much indulgence to be moving. The video fo the marches almost made me cry and the actor that portrayed MLK did a fabulous job. I highly recommend this one...although I'll admit it does have some slower parts that could have been taken out.

Unbroken - Cool story that is told pretty well, but for some reason I found the movie kind of lame. It was too cookie cutter in the inspirational genre. I guess Jolie went safe...which is fine...but it's not a movie I'd watch again out of interest.

Mississippi Burning - I've seen this one a half dozen times before (first time was in a class in high school) and I still love it. Gene Hackman rocks and while some of the stuff in the movie is over the top, the movie is well done and is very close to accurate in its portrayal of life/politics in a small town Mississippi. There are members in my ward that grew up in MS and they tell stories similar to what happened in this movie. Crazy stuff that still goes on today.
