  • Finally getting around to watching the J.J. Abrams Star Trek.

That is one hell of a movie.

    Love Chris Pine as Kirk.

    Uhura is freaking hot.

    I loved Leonard Nimoy's cameo.

I though the entire cast was great. I'd like to see more of Bones in the next one. He makes me laugh.

I felt like the movie captured the spirit of the series. I hope there's a lot more sequels.

I'm REALLY excited to see what J.J. Abrams does with Star Wars.

      • "Before Midnight"

I watched the first two in the "Before" series before seeing the 3rd at the Broadway.

The dialogue is so organic, and Linklater does a fantastic job of letting Delpy and Hawke just act. In the first two films, there are barely any other characters; the third introduces more-involved secondary characters, but it's still the continued journey of these two. It's a little unsettling to see their relationship move from "what could have been" to "what have we done?", but it's still fantastic.

Linklater might be my favorite director. The way he tells a story within a day, or sometimes an evening, or even a dream, is brilliant.

          • The Object. It's a documentary about three (pardon the term but it's accurate) rednecks from Kentucky that find an object that they believe to be the Urim and Thummim at a Goodwill Store for .69. They see visions when they look into it and try to figure out what God is calling them to do with it.

Again, this is a documentary, not a work of fiction.

Oddly enough, there's no real Mormon subtext to the film (although they end up showing it to a number of scholars, including Kathleen Flake, a specialist in LDS history at Vanderbilt). It may be one of the strangest and most intriguing documentary films I've ever seen.

This thought had me highly aroused during the opening sequence of Into Darkness

They filmed this on the UW's campus a couple summers ago. Not particularly good but it was fun to see such a familiar place on screen.

I figure it is a must have for when the question of where the Urim and Thummim ended up comes up in gospel doctrine...

Waste of money. The story was bad and the humor was very limited. Lots of cheap laughs and potty humor, which my kids loved but I fell asleep for a bit and MJ said it was boring.
