Pretty fun movie starring Lake Bell, Rob Corddry, and Demetri Martin (yep, the guitar/whiteboard comedian), among others. A fairly original story line about a woman trying to break into the world of big-time voice over (hence the title). Lots of very clever dialogue (maybe just a hair too much, even) and solid acting. Some funny cameos from well-known actors like Eva Longoria and Cameron Diaz were also a nice touch. I also appreciated that they wrapped it up in 90 minutes, instead of unnecessarily dragging it out for another 30, like so many movies would have.

The tone and pace felt a lot like Safety Not Guaranteed and other similar shows. jaysantos, it's getting 7.3 stars in IMDB, so it's right in your wheelhouse. I think your wife would enjoy it, a handful of F-bombs and one hairy (male) ass notwithstanding.
Lake Bell. She's got a wide range of looks. I'll just leave it at that.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I loved this movie @ Sundance- will probably watch it again a few times when it inevitably lands on Netflix. It won the Screenwriting award and it shows in the witty dialogue as mentioned ^. Demitri Martin and Lake Bell are great leads, and it's nice to see a light movie without the heavy cliches and same 4 actors that are in every movie (Rob Cordry not withstanding).

It felt porno-ish that way, even before it started. I went to see it because I love JGL who wrote it, directed it, and stars in it. The content was way more explicit than I would have liked, I talked to my coworkers about this, and they thought so as well, even the ones who take selfies and dance with molly.

The movie's themes were interesting, but when you think about it, far from novel.
Spoiler for The rest of this is SPOILER:
        Here are the themes:

        1. Protagonist goes from "all guys do porno" to "well maybe a deeper emo relationship is more fulfilling" [Hardly a new idea]
        2. The concept of the white knight on his horse coming to rescue the fair maiden is just as unrealistic as porn. [I think it was Stephen King who said that the Twilight Series is porn for white pre teen girls.]
        3. The Catholic Church (and other churches) doesn't really address the loss of quality of life due to porn, most concentrating on the act of consuming porn and less on the escapism from life [someone posted in Donut's porn thread about the LDS Bishop who said that porn was nothing about desire and everything about escapism.]
        4. He wastes a lot of his life on porn. [Nothing new]
        4. His porn consumption led him to her, and her "porn" consumption led her to him. And they used each other in conjunction with their porn addictions. And he wakes up to the fact in the end (aided by her busting him) where she never knows what she is doing. [This was probably the most interesting theme.]

LOL. This is what has kept me from going to this movie, despite wanting to see it. I might as well go in a trench coat while I'm at it.

I love her long time. Something about a girl that you know isn't a moron that is a turn on.

Probably a Utah phenomenon. Like when Hooter's opened.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

            • I haven't seen it, but I wonder if Don Jon is a more effective messenger of the "don't look at porn" thing than any of Elder Scott's personal conversations from the pulpit.

Actually, probably not. If you incessantly consume porn, you too can end up with someone that looks like Scarlett Johanson.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

              • Saw Prisoners this afternoon. It was a decent piece of genre work with some good performances, but the mystery wasn't nearly as clever as it thought it was. I had it figured out about half-way through. I thought there would be some surprise twist at the end, because I usually am not the type to have everything figured out so quickly, but it ends exactly how you think it should end. That would have been fine if there was some larger point it was trying to make ... but there wasn't. Better than most of the crap that has been in the theaters lately though. So glad that the Summer Movie Season is over and we get to see some good stuff again.

                • Identify Thief. Wife wanted to see this. lol hilarious when the fat crazy girl is doing her thing. Horribly lame when she wasn't in the scene or they were trying to do the thing which is the biggest Hollywood fail in comedy movies where they try too hard to make a sentimental point. I guess this is why it averages out to 5.6 IMDB. why tf does Hollywood do this?

                  • Saw Gravity. It was fun and even thrilling at times. Surely not a fabulous film, but was worth the ticket to see it in the theater. It was amazing how real the space/anti-gravity scenes were. I'm still wondering how they did most of that given how real it looked. There's gotta be an article somewhere explaining it all but I'm just too lazy to look.

I too was impressed with the special effects. We saw it in IMAX 3-D. Pretty cool. Decent story. I really liked the third astronaut (whose name I don't recall).

                      • I was waiting for my dog to get out of surgery and I needed something, anything, to get my mind off my pooch. (And yeah, I unrepentantly called in sick for it. I think sick leave should cover dogs and cats. I said it was a family emergency and it was-- I would be devastated if anything happened to Lucy. And I would expect all my facebook friends to send condolences.)

Anyway, I saw Rush. I had no expectations and knew nothing about what it was about. Plus, I hate sports movies in principal. But this one blew me away. It was really good. Ron Howard has matured as a director somewhere along the way. Plus, I was swooning over the actor in the movie. No-- I'm not talking about Chris Hemsworth, I'm talking about Daniel Bruhl who plays Niki Lauda. A spanish-born German actor, he is fluent in spanish, german, and english. His german-accented english impresses the heck of of me. You may already have seen him in Goodbye Lenin, Bourne Ultimatum, and Inglorious Basterds.

Oh yeah-- Olivia Wilde is also in this movie.

                        • rush was really great. people don't really understand how barbaric f1 racing was in those days--no safety technology, no power steering, crude aerodynamics, no traction control, slicks, and monster turbo engines.

Rush is a great movie. Of course, crashes in auto racing still happen but less people die now days. This one just happened at the IRL race in Houston on Sunday:
