Without giving away too much of the film, I figure there are at least six instances in which I was jolted in my seat. I don't think my living room could've provided anywhere close to the terror I felt in the theater in those moments.

Did you stick around through the end of the credits? You missed the "ending" of the film if you didn't.

I thought it was a good flick, but I couldn't think of taking my 10-year-old son (who is into the whole Bear Grylls/survivalist stuff he sees on TV) to see it. Was hoping for a mild 'R' but The Grey was anything but in a couple of spots in the movie that cannot be ignored.

No, I missed the end of the credits. Maybe I would have liked it more.
I'm very hard on movies. It's just a mental thing, that I want to feel like I wasn't 'worthy' to watch a movie if I pay to go see it. I did think a few scenes were done very well, especially how Liam Neeson was consoling the first person who was dying after the crash. And yes, there were some good terror moments. If I was grading, I'd give it a 'B'.

Quite the online discussion online over The Grey's ending, post-credits. Won't be too difficult to find it.

Not sure if you wound up seeing it but if you haven't I can give you my opinion. I wouldn't use "intense" to describe the movie but I will say it is touching and an interesting story.

          Spoiler for Plot:
I thought the acting was very, very good, especially from the boy but I will say that I had a hard time believing that any child of that age, even with Aspergers, would be that intelligent, thoughtful, and organized. His grief was very believable though, especially given his personality quirks and I was moved to tears at the end. The wife was not which was weird. Mixed reviews from us.

Did you mention something Star Trek related? I am, you know, a HUGE RUSH FAN. Today is, 2-1-12.

              • I saw the new flick Chronicle a couple nights ago. If you haven't seen the trailers, it's a basically a "found footage" movie like Paranormal Activity or Cloverfield, except it's about some kids who gain superhuman powers. I didn't know a lot about it going in, but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie is genuinely suspenseful and well-paced and the principal actors (who were all unknown to me) were very convincing. Fun flick, especially if you're a fan of "what if superpowers existed in the real world" comic stories like me.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Is it scary? It looks intriquing, but I dont like scary movies.

Not scary, but it does get a bit dark, thematically.

                      • Trollhunter via Netflix streaming.

We enjoyed it. Not great, but pretty good and definitely worth watching. Kind of a mix between Blair Witch and Cloverfield, but a little more on the fun/campy side.

Beautiful setting in the mountains and fjords of Norway.

If you want to stick with your troll theme, I recommend Best Worst Movie, also streaming on Netflix. This movie is a documentary about the worst movie ever made, Troll 2. Apparently filmed in Utah by an Italian production company. Lots of local (utahan) actors and crew. More than slightly amusing.

                          • "The Grey." Meh. Interesting idea that fizzled. If you do see it, be sure to stay and watch until the very end of the final credits.

"Red Tails." I loved it. Well worth seeing. Much more worth the price of admission than the other one.

                            • Just saw "The Lady in Black" with my wife.

I'm not a fan of horror movies.

This was a period piece set in rural Great Britain in the early 1900's. I guess that made it a bit unique.

The lead was played by Frodo Baggins.

There were some good jolts but I thought the movie dragged quite a bit.

Early on, some foreshadowing occurs and almost immediately you can see where this thing is going.

I wouldn't recommend seeing it in a theater. Probably best rented and watched in the basement of an old house.

By "Lady in Black", do you mean "Woman in Black"? And by "Frodo Baggins", do you mean "Harry Potter"?
