I'm surprised to see the critics reviews so mixed on this.
This type of stuff isn't normally my jam...but I had time to burn and figured why not. Even though this isn't my type of film, I was mesmerized.

Funny side story. Group of 4, 20-22 year old kids, that were talking through all 20 minutes of previews (it was annoying as shit). They weren't even quiet or using an inside voice. Full on conversations and making fun of the previews. Movie started and they were still going. I was about to say something when the dude in front of them turns around and says "You have two options...shut the fuck up or go and ask for a refund. But decide right now." Someone from the back of the theater says "Amen!" Was hilarious. The group of 4 was pissed. Bunch of dicks right there.

We have a Paragon Theater where we live. Every seat in the place reclines and is reserved only. Even better is that three of the theaters have 21+ only balconies as they have a restaurant and bar on the second level. They have a doorman that checks IDs and what you're wearing as they have a dress code. Then they have ushers and servers take you and your food to your seats. It's a couple bucks more a ticket, but so worth it to me.

I went to one of those on my last trip to Sac. Whole theater was 21+. Ticket was only 50 cents more than normal theater nearby. Was a no brainer.

        • The Joker-- Fantastic. I just saw Taxi Driver on Netflix and this had a lot more in common with it than other comic movies. I don't know if this is going to be a part of a new batman reboot or not, but it kind of plays like a standalone movie. Pretty fun.

Disturbing...uncomfortable...dark. It was fantastic. This is not a movie for kids. No way.

It was like they opened the mind of someone suffering from extreme mental illness and took a snapshot and turned that into a movie.

Like, no kids at all? I have a 16 year old who really wants to see this. I was considering taking him.

Ehhh. Use your discretion. I understand why a 16 year old would want to see it, but...

                But....?

Hard to use my discretion when I haven't seen the film.

I raised daughters...I wouldn't have taken either of them to see this movie. Take that for what its worth.

Use your discretion on whether your own 16 year old, assuming you know what he's like, can handle a disturbing, violent movie.

You probably just hadn't noticed, but that movie is actually rated R. Should probably wait until it's been edited to view it.

Yeah I wouldn't take my teen. The movie is disturbing. The violence is extremely graphic. This movie isn't really a comic book movie. Certainly not in the vein we're used to.

Good idea. There's some graphic gun deaths (with blood splatter patterns) and gruesome murders. There was a guy behind me with his two kids (probably one was around 12, the other 14), and it bothered me that his kids were there.

                              • Loved Joker. I don't understand the negativity from the critics. I feel like it's best picture of the year level great film.
                                Spoiler for But...:
For me, this wasn't a back story of the character Joker in the Batman series. This is a story of a person with severe mental health issues that has nothing to do with the Batman world suffering from delusion who pictured himself as someone becoming the Joker. Right? The final TV scene with Deniro and the escape from police and cop killing scene never happened. It ended with him locked up in the mental hospital. If it's that, it's a great film. The delusions increased as he came off his medicine. He's not the Joker.
