i think this is right. if any system was broken it was industry capture of ratings agencies. the movie gets at that some. it also tries to generate sympathy for people who bought mortgage products they didn't understand. that's fine to sympathize, but consumers that made bad financial decisions are not blameless. and the epilogue implies that the regulation climate didn't change materially after 2008, but that's flat out wrong. financial institutions operate in a very different way than ten years ago. it also conveniently omits that tarp funds were repaid with interest within a pretty short time frame. i don't know who they wanted to go to jail, either, and what charges should have been brought. it was stylistic and entertaining, but generally not very faithful to what actually happened.
It's a movie, not a documentary. Movies like this are made by Hollywood so they have to have a liberal bend to them. They also have to totally dumb it down to an incredibly simplified level for the plot to work and to keep the audiences attention. If anyone cited the movie as factual, they are stupid, but the gist is there even if it's embellished...kind of like the first vision

The book is much better. It's even written in non-financial language for the most part so pretty much anyone can understand it.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

    • Apparently the new Ghostbusters isn't a total trainwreck. Whoever made the trailer should be fired from the industry. The movie itself has a good writer and director in Feig who made Freaks and Geeks and Bridesmaids, so it shouldn't be that surprising that it's supposedly not bad.

These things tend to snowball regarding movies. Waterworld was supposed to be one of the worst movies ever and it was going to bankrupt the studio. The movie ended up being forgettable but not terrible and turned a small profit.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

      • Just got out of Ghostbusters. My expectations were so off that I actually loved it. There were some of the typical cliches and chestnuts you would expect but it was really funny, the writing was good, a good mix of mom humor and lots of absurdist humor, and fantastic art direction in the third act-- loved the vintage halloween imagery that inspired it. Also, a cameo from every meaningful cast member from the original and lots of easter eggs for good measure. The pacing is iffy in the first act, but after that it clips along pretty well.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

When people started hating on it, I just thought, "It can't be any worse than Ghostbusters II."

Hateful Eight Meh. Probably the worst Tarantino film I've seen. Too long, and yet too pithy. Definitely below Pulp, Inglorious, Django, the Kill Bills, and Reservoir Dogs.

How does it compare to Jackie brown, death proof and from dusk till dawn?

That's OK. There are some boring movies that I like. But this wasn't one of them.

While Dusk Till Dawn isn't Tarantino, it moves quicker than this one. It's not better, though. Jackie Brown is better than this. Death Proof is probably not as good as H8ful 8.

I'm with you one this. I liked it but it was very mediocre and agree it is Tarantino's worst work.
