You're probably right, I need to stop skimming posts. Oh, well, still liked the movie.

    • Lincoln

I liked it a lot, despite being really tired going into it and nodding off a time or two. Tons of dialogue, so this takes some energy to watch- much like watching StarTrek- The Next Generation. What's enjoyable about this movie is Daniel Day-Lewis' acting and the little foibles he brings to the character that we've always read about but haven't really been brought to life in cinematic portrayals(the high, reedy voice, etc.) It's just fun to listen to him speak and interact with people as Lincoln.

For a movie called Lincoln, however, it was pretty tightly focused on the 13th Amendment drama. I was kind of wanting more of a chronological spectrum of the man's life. I suppose this snapshot was sufficient though. oh well!

We saw this today and we just loved it. Daniel Day Lewis was Lincoln. He, Sally Field, & Tommy Lee Jones were spectacular. Best film I've seen in ages. I'm not ashamed to admit I was brought to tears on several occasions.

Spielberg did a marvelous job of introducing dozens of characters of historical significance without patronizing us with boring or transparent explanations for their appearance. For a history buff like me I found that refreshing and it really kept the dialogue moving forward.

        • The Eagle starring Magic Mike as a Roman Centurion. Flipped past it the other night. It was cheesy and unrealistic at parts but I still enjoyed it.

The book was based (loosely) on Team of Rivals, which devoted maybe 5 pages to the 13th Amendment. I was surprised they made that the focus of the movie. But it was fascinating to me.

Hopefully this week while we are out of town for Thanksgiving. I need to check what the theater in somewhat rural No Cal is showing.

                  • We saw the new Bond over the weekend.

Liked it quite a bit better than the last two, Quantum and Casino Royale.

Tell your daughters that the horse breaks its leg so it has to be put down and its tanned hide is used as synthetic velvet for a painting of Elvis. I guarantee they won't ever want to watch that movie again.

I loved Casino Royale, but hated the last one. Skyfall is worth picking up at redbox in a few months.

                              • 'The Life of Pi'. Saw it last night in 3D. It is one of the most visually stunning movies I have seen. The CGI blends seamlessly with live action. Plot wise, the movie got off to a great start. I knew I was supposed to clue in to a timeless truth by the end, but I'm not sure if I got it. In the end, it didn't matter. It was more of a 'journey' type film. I'd give it a solid 'B'.
