  • just watched Whip It with my wife. I don't know how many people have seen it or are interested in a Drew Barrymore-directed flick about roller derby, but it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Really grew on me as we got further into it.

I saw it. Definitely better than it deserved to be.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

        • Just watched ZOMBIELAND over the weekend with my wife for Valentine's Day. We loved it. You know when you watch a movie and it turns out to be exactly what you were in the mood to see? That was ZOMBIELAND this weekend.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

          • Waltz with Bashir

I watched it this weekend. I'm sure others here have seen it and I'm curious about your thoughts on it.

It captures the confusion, ambiguity, and emotions of conflict in the Middle East. The surrealism of fighting in Lebanon and then traveling home to a disco (with PIL playing) six weeks later, while on leave, is startlingly.

I also really dug the medium, more than other animated dramas, i.e. A Scanner Darkly - which I also like. I feel it's a result of the serious, non-fiction content delivered via a medium which traditionally only carries fiction.

We watched it as well on Sunday night. Funny flick.

Is it as good as Hot Fuzz or Shawn of the Dead?

No, it's nowhere near as ambitious as those two, but it's got lots of decent laughs and some great zombie-bashing.

Not close to Shawn Of The Dead. And even below Hot Fuzz. Movie style is completely different from those two, though. You get a good fun adventure with some good laughs.

                      • I liked Zombieland better than Sean of the Dead, but liked it for different reasons than the aforementioned Sean of the Dead. I thought it was funnier. Maybe not smarter, but a little more hardy laughs if that makes sense.

I also really liked Woody Harrelson in this movie. He was perfect. This is probably the only zombie movie I'd own. A little courser than Sean of the Dead, but very watchable.

                        • Watched Humpday last night. Pretty experimental as a film, but also had its entertaining moments. The scene where he's telling his wife about the porn contest and what they are trying to accomplish was hilarious.

I thought that movie was hilarious too. The main guy, Mark Duplass directed another movie for Sundance that I caught, Cyrus, and did a Q and A afterward.
Cyrus is super hiliarious mainstream (in the vein of Superbad-- and stars Jonah Hill, btw) and will come out in theatres. I highly recommend it.
