A murder in Washington state has made headlines because the death was eerily similar to a scene in the AMC television series "Breaking Bad."

      • Possible Saul Goodman spinoff.....it might have to be a prequel if Saul doesn't make it out alive.

Doh! It was dated July 2nd. I didn't catch yours. Mine does have an interview transcript.

            • Last week I bought the entire season 4 and rewatched it. I like to buy the DVD's of good shows, just because I love to listen to the commentaries. Of all the commentaries I've listened to over the years, some of my favorites are the Breaking Bad commentaries. They do commentaries on just about every episode, and Vince Gilligan is in most of them. Lots of really cool behind-the-scenes stuff. I would heartily recommend them.

              • This has probably been mentioned elsewhere, but starting tonight at 10 PDT, the Sundance Channel is running a show called The Writers' Room featuring interviews by Jim Rash (excellent as a co-writer and actor in The Way Way Back and as a co-writer of The Descendants) with the writers of various TV shows. Tonight he talks to Vince Gilligan. I'm definitely tuning in.

Vince Gilligan does a weekly podcast with some of his crew members (and sometimes cast members) during each season where they talk about each episode. You should check it out ... it is excellent.

                  • Andy Greenwald, the TV guy on Grantland, says the premiere this Sunday is really good.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                    • I finally got caught up on this in the last few weeks and all I can say is "WOW".

I can't believe what Jesse Plemons did and how things played out with Walt and Mike.

It's been a wild ride, and one of the best series I've ever watched.

                      • An excerpt from Greenwald's article.

If that is indeed the case, then Sunday's episode, of which I'll spoil not a whit other than to say it is absolutely terrific, feels less like merging onto an exit ramp and more like the later stages of a rocket launch. The direction, by Bryan Cranston himself, is stirring and precise. The tone alternates between hilarious and bleak, and the tension is excruciating. The way an impatient Gilligan leaps fearlessly to tackle story points that other Emmy winners would let linger for half a season makes me think he's the sort of hedonist who would never deign to sit through a salad course when there's steak on the menu. He just can't help himself, and goddamn does it taste good!
