  • Went to Silver Lake today. Wife likes it up there so it is an annual thing. We were going to have a picnic dinner up there but we forgot the bug repellant and they were out in force. So we went over Guardsman Pass and ate at the lake in Midway.

    Ducklings were out.

I think that is Mt. Wolverine. Not sure but the map seems to indicate it is.

Nice shots Copelius. I have no idea what is on that ducks head? This being the photography thread I thought this article was fun:

We couldn't figure it out either. They were just feathers as far as I could tell. Looked like he had just returned from an Elvis impersonator convention.

        • Silver Lake (and Silver Glance Lake) was the first camping trip Mrs. NWC and I took. Nothing big, just a weekend up there. Beautiful area.

That's what the missus has done, and while I'd consider doing so myself, I don't want to shell out for a second set of equipment. As I try to figure out what course(s) to take this fall, I'm seriously considering this class on using one's iPhone to take pictures. Silly, perhaps, but I've been impressed by the photo quality from the latest generation of iPhones.

My daughter has a mid-range DSLR and she is getting pretty good at taking food pics (she has a food blog). She has arranged a few gigs this summer for restaurants in LA. Trying to build up a portfolio.

                      Just tilt your head.

If when you tilt your head the intersecting lines become parallel, I want to know what you're taking...

It's weird but after correcting tens of thousands of images for minor rotational capture errors, I can't stop seeing it. It gives me a sense that the image itself is unstable in some way. Vertical lines especially convey a send of strength and stability in an image.

When it comes to landscape photography, especially with architectural elements, absolutely! Vertical lines must be parallel to the edges of the photograph. Almost no exceptions. My camera has an electronic level in the viewfinder, and I have physical level that slides into the flash hotshoe for tripod leveling...
