  • We have a herd of mountain goats on the top of the mountain above our house (Cascade). I like to spot them with binoculars when we hike. I would love to buzz up there with a drone and get a closer look.

    • There are also goats high up on the mountainside near the Temple Quarry at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. But that area strikes me as the type of place where you aren't allowed to fly a drone and will get fined for disturbing wildlife or disturbing the peace or some other manufactured violation. (I have no actual knowledge about the rules and regs there - it just seems like an area that would attract lots of self-important granola and Save-Our-Canyons types who are prone to complain about such things as drones)

      • If you ware talking about the south side of LCC, that is in the Lone Peak Wilderness area, and drones are not legal there.

iIf you are talking about the north side of LCC, that is Forest Service land and drones are allowed under normal FAA guidelines

All of the area around Cascade and Provo parks are Forest Service land as well.

The only mountain goats I've seen at LCC are on the south side.

The first two paragraphs were directed to BFM. I forgot to use the quote feature. the last was for you.

              • Shadeur Sanders' stock as an NFL QB will never be higher than it is now. If he were smart, he would immediately hold out for a new contract, let all of the crappy QBs ahead of him fail, and then hold the Cleveland Browns ransom. They would pay him. The hype is presently on his side, and as soon as he plays an actual starting defense in the NFL, his stock is going to plummet.

                • Commando is from the Phoenix valley right? Since he’s not around I can shit on this area. Apologies if there’s others on the board that are presently stuck here!

just finishing up a check in visit to my mom and her husband. She has lived most of her adult life in this valley. But every time I could her I’m so glad I made it out. It is a sprawling unsustainable morass of people. For crying out loud, there are millions of people here who can’t even drink the water! My mom stopped getting the larger bottled water years ago, and has since been sustained by cases of smaller Costco water bottles. How is that a life?!?

the weather is currently pleasant and the highway system is great. And I guess it’s probably one of the cheaper larger US cities to live in. But those are no reasons to melt away 8 months of the year running from a/c to a/c and sucking the rivers dry. Wake up people!

                  • I was born there and went to high school there. It’s unrecognizable to me. Places I used to camp and hunt are now neighborhoods. But, the weather is decent mid September to mid April.

The advantage it has over Houston (the shithole I’ve lived the plurality of my life now)is there are mountains nearby. And in two hours time, you can spend a weekend in perfect weather all summer.

and they tore down Fiesta Mall, the mall of my teenage years!

It tastes terrible. There may be some pockets of the valley that have better water, but I’ve drank it in Tempe, Mesa, Phoenix, and Glendale. It’s not pleasant to drink. Most people have the 5 gallon jar coolers for their drinking water.

                          • I'm not a fan of the Phoenix area either. I have 2 family of in-laws that live there and a nephew and his wife. The best summary of the area that I can describe is sprawl with large number of trailer parks with palm trees. There may not be that many, but that is the vibe I get.

Flagstaff is awesome, Phoenix, not so great.

It is really unpleasant. It didn’t taste dissimilar enough to our pool water.
