On a more serious note, maybe I am wrong here, but I think we are starting to see that this guy had some pretty serious mental health issues. It's been interesting as some stuff comes out the cognitive dissonance it causes among the some of the group that has held him up as a hero. I've seen a decent amount of posts about this guy not being the real killer, he's a patsy, etc. because they had pictured him as some kind of avenging Superman.
Oh yeah. Tons of conspiracy theories on X. Some based on the shape of his unibrow in photos vs when they captured him. No shortage of stupid people.

        • I recently learned that the shorts women wear under short skirts in China are called "Safety Pants" (安全裤), and now often when I am driving around or whatever I find myself singing nonsense lyrics to "The Safety Pants" song based on the 80s classic "The Safety Dance".

Hoping this does not happen inadvertently in a business meeting or something.

            • This is interesting. I'm not a sports better and have no judgment for those who are, but these findings are pretty damning towards the enterprise. It is concerning to me that sports events now seem so dependent on betting advertisements. I think it creates an unhealthy relationship between the broadcasters and betting houses that *could* potentially impact the on-field product.

I would not have thought of that as an effect of sports betting.

                • One of my business partners, the head of our Credit Risk group, has very good English even though she is not a native English speaker. Having said that, she never picked up on the nuance of the phrase "pile on", and thinks it just means "Add to". So she often sends emails that start out with something like "To pile on what Bob said", or "I'd like to pile on Brandon's thoughts".

I haven't said anything because it makes me chuckle whenever I see it.

                    • They are sure putting a lot of "Jack-in-the-Box" fast food places in in North Davis County - I've counted 4 in Layton/Kaysville alone. I hope what happened to the Sonic Drive-ins doesn't happen to them. The Jack people seem to be following the same plan. Of all the Sonics that were opened in a six month span, I can think of only two that are still operating.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

                        • I've mentioned in another thread that I take occasional online Chinese speaking lessons with a teacher in China. In our last class we got to talking about daughters (I have three. She only has a son and wants a daughter), and the bond between fathers and daughters. She mentioned a somewhat common Chinese saying along the lines of "Daughters are their father's lovers from a previous life". She seemed a bit put out when I wasn't really all-in on the sweetness/preciousness of this saying.

Some things don't quite translate very well.
