  • It is raining here. Problem is that is raining on top of lots of snow. Snow level is projected to be around 8000-9000 ft, which is not good. The snow that is already here is at 5000 ft.

I got into work today and they closed the road behind me, so I might not get home. Which could prove difficult since my wife is out of town at a conference and my daughter is in elementary school back by home.

Are they letting you go home?

The road is not open to the public, but I put on my high viz jacket and got my kids out of school early. My good friend was coordinating the closure from the office, so the crew and highway patrol let me through. One of the perks of being an exec I guess.

The road wasn't too bad, only a few places where flooding was covering parts of the highway. Just took it slow. South of here there are 10 places where the road is under at least 6 inches of water. A few places where the mud flow is a few feet deep. So overall not too bad, but our area is still cut off. Roads are closed for 100 miles in all directions.

        • after few minutes on twitter, what we are getting pales in comparison to other parts of the state. Looks scary out there.

Our kids in Monterey had no power overnight.

There is rain at mid-elevation at Big Bear and Tahoe, too. The snow on rooftops will get heavier and heavier. Lots of washed-out roads and collapsed bridges.

The videos I have seen of the Kern river are insane. I feel for the people of Big Bear, been a tough winter.

Yeah....Kernville is toasted. River went from 6' to 17'. We actually have water in the riverbed in Bakersfield.

They are supposed to get another 3' through tonight and tomorrow. Glad I live down the hill.

                        • We have had a ton of rain this year. Just yesterday we got about 3 inches. Lots of snow in the mountains as well. Not Mammoth levels, but still pretty good. I drove through Lassen National Forest the other day and there were 10 foot berms along the road for a good chunk of it. The only downside is that a lot of the rain is not falling above Lake Shasta, so the state's largest reservoir is still lagging behind the to-date average. I suspect it will catch up as the snow melts, but its weird to see the lake still somewhat low after the crazy winter and spring we've had.

                          • That was quite a storm today. We got at least 6" here in NE Orem. I had to pull the snowblower back out of the shed.

                            • The tornado or bomb cyclone only missed me by 2 miles in LA yesterday. The rain was nuts.

                              • We got a bunch of hail here last night which, after it stopped falling, looked like snow.
