357.4 km -- Year was obvious on this for me, with the original moon landing. Couldn't pick up the language from the signs very well. I thought I saw an "e" on the word "haus", so I didn't think it was Germany. Went with the central location of Copenhagen.

3.2 km -- Found it on the map from the map in the picture and got pretty close to the year basing things on when 3G was likely to get to a poverty-stricken African country. The sign looked a little dated too.

662.6 km -- Lots to digest from the signs. I didn't gather much from them though. Avignon was probably the best clue. I've found that 90% of French pictures come from Paris so I picked there.

670.5 m -- Found one of the stations in Stockholm to confirm it was there (I didn't look anywhere else). There was an ad that looked like it was for a VR set, so I assumed it was pretty recent.

4.6 km -- Thought the guy looked like my dad would have in about 1980. So, I guessed way too recently.

It's funny that I was probably off on the date of the moon landing picture by more than any of the rest of you, despite being one of the very few here who can remember that day very well. I was off, though, by 14 years because the space suit looked very ''50s science fiction to me, there was a Creature of the Black Lagoon poster in the background (release date mid-50s), and the tv sets looked older to me than '69. At least I caught the German language signs.

I thought it was a Worlds Fair or something along those lines. I picked Munich 1968. Turns out there was some sort of expo in 1965 there, so I must have been conflating a couple things.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostIt's funny that I was probably off on the date of the moon landing picture by more than any of the rest of you, despite being one of the very few here who can remember that day very well. Bad. Very bad. 27,318
5012 - 0 years, 9312.1km - Saw the Ber in the sign and considered Berlin, but went with LA instead.
4690 - 5 years, 3549.5km - The scene looked Middle-Eastern to me and didn't recognize any names on the map. Went near Ankara a bit too early.
6338 - 10 years, 661.6km - Saw the French writing so went with Paris in spite of not remembering any electric trolley cars there.
3842 - 17 years, 1315.3km - Thought I saw Nuremburg on one of the signs, so went with Munich. Way off on time, too.
7436 - 9 years, 2.7km - Didn't realize mobile phone technology was available so early."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

36,772. Dates are killing me too. It is obvious to me that the year is much more important that the location.
1)
9553 pts
3 yrs off
1.7 km -- The only really straightforward one today.
2)
7219 pts
4 yrs off
1161.9 km -- Was really confused about the English and European looking signs, but the location did not seem like England. Finally clued in when I saw the Hungry Jack's sign which I learned recently was the version of Burger King in Australia. I picked Sydney as I saw Miller Point by the opera house and several signs that talked about Miller Station.
3)
4300 pts
22 yrs off
199.8 km -- Originally, thought it was Poland. Found the E79, on mainland Europe, but finally found the 3 in Finland and Vaasa. I didn't adjust the date from when I thought it was Poland, so I picked way too recently.
4)
8868 pts
2 yrs off
432.5 km -- Wasn't sure about the location except the PL suffix on the web address. Picked Warsaw. I didn't dismiss the Nepalese flags because nothing else pointed to that location.
5)
6832 pts
15 yrs off
17.1 km -- Looked like a French palace, so I picked Versailles. Didn't think the photo was that old.

Dates definitely harmed me more than places today, but the places got their digs in too.
1-7456 8yr 1.5km - Those dang 73-75 cars totally got me.
2-9584 3yr 814m - Best of the day. There was a sign hanging across the street that said Adelaide on it so it was just zooming in until I saw a McDonalds
3-9253 4yr 1.7km - Zoomed into the Finland map looking for place names that would fit.
4-7259 7yr 640km - Thought it was a refugee camp on the Ukraine border
5- 5998 11yr 502km - Kid looked kinda depressed so took a stab in the middle of northern England. Didn't really see any clue that would have gotten the year so guessed too high.

Much better today than yesterday, but some big misses:
8858 - 5 years, 1.4km - A little early
7246 - 7 years, 654.3km - saw the Australian flag, guessed Melbourne
7842 - 1 year, 1215.2km - Initially thought Poland but didn't see any of the named locations. Went with a random spot in Western Ukraine.
5012 - 0 years, 6317.2km - Went with Nepal, which was not close.
8960 - 2 years, 340km - Looked Parisian, but didn't remember seeing that in my Paris research, so went with London"I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

This is a good example of the emphasis on the correct year vs. distance. I was only 100 m away from the spot (I've been there), but was nine years off rather than your two. You were more than a 1000x times farther away but outscored me on that turn by over 1500 points. Bummer, but them's the rules.Originally posted by Pelado View PostMuch better today than yesterday, but some big misses:

I was surprisingly close on the years this time. Probably the closest I've been cumulatively. Not even a single one was 20+ years off.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View Post
