The Utes were just ugly tonight. They didn't seem very focused. Perhaps they were looking ahead to next week?
But I'll give SJSU some credit. Tomey seems to have very good defensive teams.

Two lost fumbles, three missed field goals, and Asiata throwing to Cain (?) on 4th and goal inside the 1. (Did they call Ludwig for advice on that play?)
Missing Louie Sakoda big time. He was 4/4 last year against Michigan (2 point win), 2/2 against TCU (3 point win), nailed the game winner against Oregon State. No room for error there if you expect to go 13-0.
I'm again impressed with Cain. He is Utah's fourth straight starting QB who was named with a lot of uncertainty (Cain, Ratliff, Johnson, Smith) but all four exceeded expectations while starting their careers 2-0.Comment

With all the speed and talent Utah has recruited offensively, they've got to find more ways to get them the ball. There's no need to over-work Asiata as Wide III and Shakerin both proved tonight that they can tote the rock.
The gameplan and offensive playcalling were both obviously very conservative, and Utah is going to need a lot more than what we saw tonight to beat Oregon.
Looks like Schlauderof was held out with a knee injury and Asiata had a shoulder problem in the 4th...both to be evaluated today.

Speaking objectively, I think Utah is due for a UNLV-esque loss in the near future anyways. Credit to Utah last year because they won three very close games, but typically a team won't win those every time. I will be picking against them in the pool this week, much as I'd like them to beat Oregon. I'm not sold on Oregon either but I think Utah loses three games this year - Oregon, TCU and BYU. I'm not sure about that. Utah looked pretty bad last night but Cain is a dangerous guy once he figures out how to settle down. The good:
Cain played well no INTs and threw mostly catchable balls. Additionally, He ran the ball well and scrambled well. One of BJ's weaknesses was that when everyone was covered he wouldn't scramble for yards. Cain was doing that last night. I'll take that. btw Surfah he threw 2 balls over 20 yards in distance and both were catchable.
Other goods were the running game and the fact that we ran the option well.
The bad:
The biggest difference between last years team and this years (besides kickers) are the cornerbacks. Quite simply Burton, Taplin-ross and stanford can't handle good receivers one on one. Makes you appreciate Smith and Cain.
Other bad is the turnovers. Utah is now -3 in TO differential for the year.
The ugly:
Vroman's kicks were atrocious and not even close. But worse than that was the clock mismanagement at the end of the half. For those of you who didnt see the with 1:49 seconds in the half SJSU had 1 st and 10 at their own one. Mysteriously Utah only uses two of their time outs and by the time they get punted two there is only 7 seconds left. It was serious WTF moment. Lets see get the ball at the your opponents 40 yard line with 40 seconds ro 9 seconds.
