Why is the SLC locale a positive sell? You mean in recruiting against OSU and Washington St? Really, not trying to rile Utes, I just dont see SLC as a comparatively attractive place for recruits to be vs othe PAC locales (except Corvallis and Pullman).

Also - while I genuinely wish the best for Norm I dont think he's going to be as much of an asset as imagined when two of the PAC schools he'll be recruiting against forced him out and two of the HCs and one OC he'll be recruiting against are guys hired to replace him.

I'd guess Utah's pitch right now sounds something like: '10 win seasons every year and two BCS wins in the last six years.' Six years from now I really think that's going to be 'hey four bowl games in the last six years with that one epic win in the Holiday Bowl. Yeah, we've averaged 5 losses a year since we joined the PAC but hey kid we are IN the PAC.'

While the PAC pitch will exert a strong pull, there will be nothing that positive to differentiate Utah from the rest of mid level programs fighting to hang w SC and Oregon (and...Stanford). Head to head there will be no reason for a kid to pick Utah over Cal, UW or ASU let alone USC or Oregon.

I don't necessarily think they'll lose ground but I don't believe there will be much of a net gain.

SLC is superior to Corvallis and Pullman, and even at worst to Tucson and Boulder. It's probably right up there with Eugene, and for how great Tempe is during the winter, it's a bitch in the summer.

Also, there's no doubt Pete Carroll "forcing" Chow out in 2005 (nevermind the rumors that Carroll attempted to hire him at Seattle in December) trumps how Kiffin tried to hire him to be his OC at USC last year.

Playing time (Harvey Langi) will give Utah a few wins; a pedigree of putting defensive players in the draft will earn them a few more; the uptick of increased exposure earns some others; and God forbid the planets align and we ever stumble into the PAC-12 title game and beat a mighty Oregon (or...Stanford) team for a Rose Bowl bid.

Tell me this - how many of you really think that Utah is going to outperform ASU, Cal, Stanford and UW over the next five years?

Maybe UW. But let's say that five years from now you're a recruit from Texas looking at those programs and Utah and that averaged over five years their performance is more or less identical.

All things being equal what possible reason does a recruit have to pick Utah?

Right now they DO have a reason - Utah is winning more and getting to the BCS and finishing ranked almost every year. But absent that why is a recruit choosing with the smallest staium and the coldest climate in the least interesting (from the perspective of a young adult) metro area?

We've already outperformed all of those schools over the previous five years. What the hell is your point? That getting into the Pac-12 is a bad thing?

He's saying these big bad PAC-12 schools will beat up on us every year and we'll average 5 losses. Then we'll be lucky to outperform Wazzou and CU because SLC is the Milwaukee of the PAC-12.

I think Lucien and Eubank and Henderson, Pommee and Pedroza are all announcing later today (like much later). There is no official word on Denham's LOI yet, no Keith Mcgill's, but I think they're both still solid.

He is a nice get for the Utes, no doubt. I just thought it was funny that he spent time talking about USC being his fave.

If this interview is any indicator, it is clear that hiring Norm will have an appreciable positive impact. This kid loves Norm. Remember that the recruits coming up now and over the next few years were raised on the SC mania of the Palmer/Bush/Matt era. Lots of SoCal kids that played ball and worship Pete and Norm. They would love nothing more than to be mentored by the offensive whiz that helped make Reggie Bush a star. To discount that seems short sighted, in my opinion.

Also, it seems I was wrong, too. Norm arrived in time to make an immediate impact, at least for this kid.

He looks like a nice get but I am questioning the kids offers. No SC and no UCLA. Yet he lists offers from LSU, Georgia, etc. If he really had those offers then why did he trip to UCF, Utah, Ole Miss, and Cincinatti? That makes zero sense.

LSU decided to not take any more receivers at one point. So his offer from them was probably pulled.
