As it stands, SC is basically taking a full class like everyone else.

They are doing nothing wrong, nor will the NCAA look bad as a result. It is just a normal recruiting year.

They are basically choosing to stagger the bowl ban and the recruiting limitations, instead of doing them concurrently.
I get that part. But from what I posted from ESPN, it sounds like he's going to take 28 guys and then if his scholarships get reduced say "you don't expect me to cut these kids loose do you?" To which the NCAA will reply "no" and :usc2:

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I think he already addressed this. While that version sounds very anti-authority, the real plan is simply to take 3 fewer enrollees next year, which is why he is stocking up now. Although your version sounds sexier, admittedly :fighton1:

Three fewer only if USC wins the appeal. If they lose the appeal, they will lose 10 next year because the sanctions will kick in.

NCAA seems toothless. and to get the run a round from lane kiffin is just sad.

Exactly its like a major league baseball player being suspended he does not serve his suspension and then appeal it. He appeals first and after the appeal is heard then he serves or does not serve.

Some good news. TE Andrew Petersen may be headed to Utah.

Interesting twist for Andrew Peterson: Arkansas now at 31 commits, 3 over SEC rules. He's not one. Utah will probably get him.

3D, as an old hand in these recruiting contests, you have to admit Utah is operating at a whole new level this year.

Actually, I think overall they have been average to poor this recruiting season. It seems that with the exception of Langi, they have lost out on most of the major head to head battles with other PAC schools. Utah's class is pretty weak this year, rivals, scout, etc agree with me. So does Norm Chow, who is clearly concerned about the lack of depth at key positions for next season's inaugural run.

Before you get upset, let me also say that my response is based on your wanting to place Utah at a "whole new level." If that is the criteria, Utah has done little to distinguish itself at all as a Big Boy this recruiting season and its current class looks much like most previous classes.

That being said, next year is when I predict Utah will get the boost. I would be willing to bet on it. Norm arrived too late to save the season this year (no big deal) but will pay dividends next season, I have no doubt. It is premature to think that a simple invitation to the PAC will yield appreciable immediate results. But hey....if it takes one season, who cares. The Utes will definitely start seeing bigger names across their doorstep, more exciting recruiting weekends, etc. It is only a matter of time.

I was just thinking about this earlier today. Driving back to work after lunch listening to Norm's slurred speech press conference....this may offend die-hard BYU fans, but I am actually excited for Norm. I hope he does well. I think he was a great hire and I think he is going to really help the Utes. I'm a softie, I guess. Norm has done great things for both BYU and SC. I will always cheer for the guy. I am happy for Norm. I bark for Sark. I want these guys to succeed. now clearly I dont want Utah to do THAT well (ha) but I have this strange feeling of warmth covering my body when I ponder my decision to support Norm Chow. Ki-yi!

Actually, this class is a lot stronger than 3-4 years ago. There are also some up in the air this year that could trickle down from USC/Arkansas types.

good point. we wont really know until tomorrow. and even then, kids dont have to sign LOIs tomorrow, they can still wait.

I think Langi was the really nice get for the Ute class, regardless of position. Denham was also a really nice sign...he had some impressive offers elsewhere. Not sure if the Utes will pick up someone better than those 2 tomorrow, but it is definitely possible.

I would say that Utah's class is better than BYU's class. (I think im making a ton of enemies on the site today!)

As far as the board teams go, I would rank the classes this way:

                          1. Texas
                          2. SC
                          3. Ohio State
                          4. Oregon
                          5. Oklahoma
                          6. Utah
                          7. BYU

Not sure how Junkie or Hot Lunch would rank them. They are definitely the experts on this. Depending on what happens tomorrow with Mamba and Lee, I might flip flop SC and the Zeros.

OU was abnormally down this year. Which is odd given that they are the pre-season #1 going into 2011. Texas and SC deserve special mention given that they were able to cull together stellar classes in the midst of major upheaval.

Frankly, BYU's class is boring. (Sorry, just being honest)

If the rumors about Andrew Peterson are true, I'm very excited. He has a great offer list:

Rivals is the best resource for recruiting and high school sports. Find all of your favorite team's information or browse our advanced player database.

It's a good class with Peterson. If Henderson/Pomee/Raven/Lucien/Eubank break our way, it will be great.

I'm sure this opinion will get strafed on this thread but I'm not even trying to incite - I really think you're wrong on this.

I think Utah starts to lose ground with recruits next year.

6-5 is likely for the Utes in 2011 (I'd peg USC, BYU, Pitt, Cal and Arizona as losses, with a possible home loss vs ASU - returning 20 starters - UW or Oregon State), and with that record Utah is suddenly just like every other middle-dweller in the PAC struggling to sneak into a bowl game. Only they're a middle dweller with a colder climate, a smaller stadium and more uptight Mormon girls who couldn't get into BYU.

Once the attraction of perennial 10 win seasons wears off, most of the things that separate Utah from ASU, Arizona, UCLA, Cal and UW aren't things that favor them.

We can revisit my theory in 2014. Carry on.
