In the least shocking news of the night, Brandon Fanika committed to Stanford.

His visits were Utah, Oklahoma St, Washington, and ASU. I realize that offer lists can be suspect, but if we just look at his official visits it is an impressive list. Also, it appears that Oregon's interest was legitimate which is a huge sign that this kid is a big recruit.

Anyone know if he is LDS? Are we looking at a mission kid?

Pretty big loss for the Utes. Bingham linebacker/safety Jared Afalava has committed to Nebraska. Most thought he was Utahs to lose.

I was hoping this kid was good enough to get legit BCS offers so he wouldn't goto Utah, because he definitely was not someone who wants to live the honor code.

                  BYU didn't want him.

I agree. It hurts Utah because they need LBs. Afalava could have stepped in and played next year.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Utah's D is looking to shape up nicely. Any word on QBs in the pipe? That is going to be a tough position to recruit right now with no official OC.

It sucks when you see three of the top kids in the state leave (Fanaika, Afalava and Houma) but the good news is 2 of the 3 were leaning towards Utah over BYU so I am glad they left.

It seems more and more of the big time recruits are leaving.

Oregon poached Haloti, Ricky Heimuli, Simi Fili, Victor Filipe, Will Tukuafu and Thor Pili

USC took Stanley Havili and John Martinez

Manaia Brown originally went to Nebraska, now Afalava.

Mike Affleck originally went to ASU

Jan Jorgensen, Kurt Jackson, Sefo Mailau and Aaron Boone all committed to Kentucky

Oregon State landed Sioeli Nau, Stephen Paea, Danny Southwick (originally) and Desmond Collins.

Misi Tupe and David Tufuga to TAMU

Tonga Tea, Alex Cate and Andrew Mitchell to Oklahoma State

Lynn Katoa (big time bust) to Colorado

Keni Kaufusi and Isi Sofele to Cal

Asi Hosea and Peter Tuiputou to Wazzou.

Stanford landed Bo McNally, Fanaika and Dallas Loyd.

                              Chris Badger to Notre Dame.

One interesting thing that may change with former Ute Josh Lyman up there now is a lot of these players (Havili, Katoa, Fili, Kaufusi, Martinez, Sofele, Hosea, and Cate) all went to Cottonwood. It seemed for a long time the C-wood coaches were pushing players to leave the state.
