It seems like once a month PU favors us with his drive-by "This place is no better than Cougarboard!" post, and then he is off, as silently as he came, not to be heard from again for another 30 days. This is what I like about CUF, each of us offers up his/her own piece of fabric from which a beautiful quilt is made. PU's contribution should be judged no better or no worse than that of the others. Ride on, PU, off into the night.

I think the Utes are going to lose out on most of these high profile last week/signing day guys. From what it sounds like, ASU is playing hardball with all their guys that Utah is going after, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Utah go 0-3 vs. ASU towards the end here.

Lya reports on Utah's efforts to pry Eubanks away from ASU. Looks like Chow is already helping recruit.

An ESPN writer named Cory Long has this to say about Utah:

Overview: It was a solid year for prospects in Utah and the Utes signed six of the top dozen in the state. Joining the Pac-12 also required Utah to continue having a strong presence in California, but they were a bit more selective there.
Top prospect: Running back Harvey Langi (South Jordan, Utah/Bingham) is a big, powerful back that would rather carry defenders down the field than elude them. Going against the bigger defensive lines in the Pac-12, Langi will be a big piece of the future offenses in Utah.
Don't be surprised if: The Utes land four-star tight end Junior Pomee (Moreno Valley, Calif./Rancho Verde). Both Pomee and his teammate, Utah commit Ryan Henderson, have been thinking heavily about USC but Utah will retain Henderson and add Pomee.

The pieces are in place for Norm Chow at Utah. The Utes are finalists for a tall WR.

Also from Ted, his view of what the various teams in Utah's division need:

Pac-12 recruiting needs: South Division

Running back: With two seniors who split the rushing load -- Eddie Wide and Matt Asiata -- gone, the Utes need running backs, and four of their 19 commitments are listed as such.

Pass catchers: The Utes must replace four of their top five receivers from 2010, which included Wide and Asiata. They've got commitments from three and are in the hunt for at least one more. Also, the class has no tight end as of yet.

Quarterback: The Utes had a commitment from quarterback Derrick Brown Insider out of Murrieta, Calif., but he switched to Washington, so there are presently no QBs in the class. Jordan Wynn will be a junior next fall, but there is no experience behind him.

No stunning insights there but I appreciate Ted's interest!

Please do go on. I'd love to hear it. ASU has better facilities, a coach who has not one but two national championships as a coach, while your coach has earned one playing at BYU. ASU is in a better location in a bigger city with much a much larger recruiting pool along with being closer to southern California. ASU has better weather. ASU has a better campus situation with hotter co-eds and my guess is deeper pockets. I'd even question the tradition and academics claim. Utah is just now leaving behind the weak while ASU blazed the trail 40 years ago. If you mean traditions since 2004, then yes. Utah has more tradition.

I remember attending the final WAC game between BYU and ASU at what was then called Cougar Stadium. Gary Sheide was the quarterback. ASU was on its way out of the WAC. BYU kicked their butts.

Our desert in Salt Lake blossomed as a rose long before their desert in Phoenix did. They had to wait for air conditioning. Wimps.
