Agree! Also happy to see Wyoming's best season in decades end in a loss to BYU.

1996 is special for many reasons. Loved that season.

That's probably what I'll remember most from attending this game. Seeing Reno run onto the field, and see the little kids running as hard and as fast as they could. And you knew Reno told them, "When we go on to the field, show Elsie how much you love her by how hard you run". The unspoken unity of their all out effort running was so powerful.

The rest of the game was fun and exciting but the lesson I learned from watching Reno's family run will be what I remember most.

I was at the game. Cheering the Cougs while they enter the field is always fun. When I saw Reno's familiy all I could do is clap, anything else would have made me look like teenage girls circa 1964 screaming for John, Paul, George, or Ringo.

We will agree to disagree. We are not nearly as good, and the MWC not nearly as bad, as many BYU fans believe. The game was perfect from my perspective: Deeply bittler UW fans can't hold a win over us and say we never should have left, and our fans see that UW isn't the high school team that some BYU fans make them out to be.

I agree, and I think we had no choice but to leave the MWC based on the revenue distribution and TV rights. Still, if we were able to keep our ESPN contract I would be all for rejoining the MWC. At some point we all need to face reality, and admit that we will not have the recruiting power to get enough big talent to play in a big boy league. Playing in any league is better than playing in none, all other things being equal, because we have something to play for at the end of the season besides making it to a mediocre bowl. Sure, it's great to play big-name schools, but the only way we make the playoffs is with an undefeated season, which will always be extremely unlikely. Most of you will disagree, but I'm entitled to my opinion and you are entitled to yours. We will all continue to maintain we are right regardless of how much we discuss this.

EDIT: as an aside, I learned that BYU actually loses money on the bowl game. They pay to bring 350 people there, and are required to buy a certain number of tickets to re-sell. They rarely sell enough tickets to pay the expenses.

Except for BYU's game I rarely watch bowl games anymore. I may watch some of the CFP, but I doubt much else. The BCS killed the bowl season years ago and it's only getting worse.

I would argue that too many bowls also was a major contributor to killing bowl season. 41 bowls for 128 teams means that most of the games aren't going to be too interesting.

As much as they annoy me, I'm glad the Trucker Utes could find such a perfect destination as the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl.

Bowls have been a disaster, long before the proliferation. When the discussion about a game is centered around "motivation", you know you have a major flaw with your postseason arrangement. We've been talking about which team is motivated to play hard in bowl games for as long as I remember, which is at least 30 years. I've never heard motivation discussed once in a playoff system.

Does the MWC gain anything if we hold on to our ESPN contract? I think the Board of Trustees would also want to retain our TV rights as well. I'm skeptical we could go back to the MWC under those conditions. For me, it's all about improving the program. Does independence give us a recruiting advantage over playing in the MWC?

The BSU-Baylor matchup is one of the few bowls I might tune in for. Will be interesting to see if the Broncos can bounce back from their late-season collapse.
