How do you figure? We had nearly an entire season to watch and evaluate Tanner. This particular offense caters to his strengths.

The offensive line started shaky, was never great, but improved. There was time to throw. Also you need to scroll up and read what I wrote about pressuring the QB. A lot of that pressure existed because our passing game didn't have to be respected by the defense which left us vulnerable to stacked defenses and blitzes.

Defenses couldn't do that with Tanner because he'd chew them up through the air.

Let me help you. He's saying a net 2-4 plays better per game. This could be 7-8 passing plays better reduced by a few Taysom running plays.

IOW he is better on pass plays, as I originally said and with which fusnik implicitly disagreed, which didnt make sense to me. BUt it is just pie in the sky speculation to say it nets out in favor of mangum AND that the net difference comes in such a way as to win a couple of the close games. There is just no clear way to rationally reach that conclusion. Taysom was not great as a passing QB. But he did keep a lot of drives alive with his feet. I am not confident that Mangum would have been able to do enough to keep those drives going. So if he does score more it might come on big pass plays. Less rest for the defense thereby, leading to easier scores ofr opponents, and so forth and so on.

Mangum is an exciting player in his own right. And I hope he lights it up and gives all the guys on the other side of this discussion plenty of ammo for this argument. But that said, I think it is silly to say that Mangum would have definitively won a couple more games or that the coaches just missed on this sort of thing (which is far, far different from saying they screwed up by calling a stupid fake punt in one drive in one game)

I can't think of a year where the QB passed for under 200 yards per game and threw 1 TD per game.

I did a comparison of the last 8 years or so the last time you asked this question and posted it in one of these threads but now I can't find it. I remember 2016 Taysom being better than Heaps and also injured Nelson. Low bar, I know. But we have selective amnesia if we think this year at QB is worse than the dumpster fire of the Heaps/Nelson years.
