Most College football fans could live with a wild card and W. Michigan getting in.

Your option ensures more feast for P5 Conference no matter what.. I think my option is more fair. Sure it is W. Michigan this time it could be BSU, BYU, or another stronger non-P5 team..

if USC and Wisconsin don't want to be left out, win more games and/or don't lose to shitty teams(looking at you, USC).
But it would be very interesting to see a rematch of USC and Alabama!

Any number of P5 teams could have played Western Michigan's schedule and gone undefeated including Michigan and Wisconsin and certainly USC whose only loss to a shitty team was one that finished at 8-4. Western Michigan defeated two Big Ten teams, neither of which have a winning record. It will be interesting to see how competitive they are against Wisconsin in the Cotton Bowl.

Fair? Fair? Why not rotate the playoff teams so that every team has an equal opportunity to participate in the playoffs every 16 years?! If a non-P5 team is good enough to earn a playoff spot then there are three wildcard slots available. But don't think a MAC conference schedule is equivalent to a Big Ten conference schedule. Put Western Michigan in the Big Ten this year and they are maybe the 5th best team and probably no higher than 8th.

The problem is, as evident by your B1G bias, teams like W. Michigan will never have the opportunity to "earn" their way in to the playoffs in your eyes. What more can WM do in this situation? They won every single game and you are still poo-pooing their efforts. Its not like they can decide to jump to the B1G next year to play a B1G schedule.

This is the same no matter what G5 team we are talking about year to year. And its what G5 teams have been complaining about for years and years. The system is set up to benefit only the P5 teams, and each year the P5 teams try to strengthen their grip, to the exclusion of the G5s.

Rankings of any form are stupid because they're all opinion, even a computer ranking where it's the opinion of the programmer that generated the algorithm. They should expand the playoff to include auto-bids for conference champions, regardless of ranking, and then wildcards for other teams. They can diddle around with rankings for the wildcard teams if they want.

So winning one's division in MLB is important since a team can be eliminated in one game by an opponent's ace pitcher. Perhaps college football moves to a 12-team playoff with the four best conference champions getting a first round bye and the other eight teams play with the higher seeded team getting to host the game. That might be a good balance between ensuring conference championships are important but still allowing deserving teams into the playoffs. To make sure all conferences are on equal footing, the Big 12 would be forced to expand by adding BYU and playing a CCG.
Agree with expanding the playoffs to include auto-bids for conference champions and wildcards for the rest. The main problem with your post is that the BIG12 is already going to play a CCG without expanding.

You say that, but you don't know that. Pure speculation.

Besides i hate that excuse, because if given the choice, they wouldn't trade paces with WMU. So make it with what you've got and ultimately what you want for yourself.

Give me a criteria for the wild card and I may change my opinion.

I still think a criteria be a Non-P5 team as long as they are ranked in Top 10 etc.

I think progress has been made with including G5 teams in the post-season; Western Michigan is playing in the Cotton Bowl. But you are correct that the system has worked against G5 teams. I don't have an answer other than expanding the playoffs to 16 teams or more. Other than that, there would have to be a lot of parity or upsets during the football season for an undefeated G5 team to get a playoff invite. This season, I don't think Western Michigan is better than Michigan, Wisconsin, or USC and that the gap between them is substantial. However, I'm prepared to revisit that view after the Cotton Bowl.

I agree. Earlier in this thread, I suggested that the Big 12 should expand and hold a CCG. I don't like that the Big 12 can have a CCG at 10 teams That's the very reason the SEC, Big Ten, and PAC-12 expanded and was a factor in the Big 8 expanding/merging with the SWC. Ideally, the rest of the P5 schools would inform the Big 12 that they can't hold a CCG until they are back at 12 schools and that only conferences that have a CCG get an auto-bid for the playoffs in our 8-team playoff scenario. Then maybe the Big 12 would get serious about expansion and add BYU and Houston.

16 team playoff is ideal. We may just not get there in our lifetime.. maybe.. That is the most inclusive way for sure and what I would want..

Historically, I think G5 teams have a pretty good record in the NY6 or BCS bowl games. That tells me that an autobid for the G5 into an 8 team playoff is probably warranted as much as an autobid for any other conference. There are more than 50 G5 teams. The best of that bunch is going to be a really good team more often than not.

Autobids are designed to let a team that might not be one of the 8 best teams into the playoff. Yes, sometimes the highest G5 might not really be a top 8 team. But that's also true for at least one P5 conference champion almost every year.
