Help Wanted: Who replaces Bronco?

Your interpretation is certainly reasonable, but I can also envisage scenarios where a letter of intent was written and it just didn't go far enough. Sometimes parties in negotiations send out a multiple letters of intent with a clear understanding that others are out there too. I still submit we know too little. TH at one time intimated we'd have a coach last weekend. Also that might be the spin which they wanted to place on it."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

The agent was pushing that agenda, imo. A raise for Ken either way is good for the agent.Originally posted by pelagius View Posti think it's pretty clear that Kenny N. never had an offer from BYU. Look at the way the Washington Post describes his staying at Navy:
It doesn't get describe that way if he had an offer.

Mormon red death, hostile too!Originally posted by wally View PostDude, are you aware that you were jogging the same trail as greatness? Morgan Scalley, Haloti Ngata, wally, (the list goes on...). Agreed, the agent smartly painted a picture of Kenny N as inevitable. But his statements were carefully worded. He never said the Kenny N. had an offer either. Rather he tried to frame things in a way that made it seem like he had one or would inevitably get one.Originally posted by The_Douger View PostThe agent was pushing that agenda, imo. "Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

The rumor is that someone else (KWhitt?) is coming in to interview on Monday... but Ken N. was the number one choice per ESPN:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/...onsidering-byuKen Niumatalolo staying at Navy after considering BYU
[...]
Niumatalolo was the top choice to replace Bronco Mendenhall at BYU. The school also has interviewed Kalani Sitake, a former BYU player and current Oregon State defensive coordinator, for the position.
I wonder if KWhitt feels bad knowing he wasn't the number one choice."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.
GIVE 'EM HELL, BRIGHAM!

I'm not even sure he had a true offer either. Acting like was going to "decide" today seemed like trying to make BYU up their timetable for deciding this or forcing an offer. I hope we move on to Sitake or Anderson.Originally posted by pelagius View PostAgreed, the agent smartly painted a picture of Kenny N as inevitable. But his statements were carefully worded. Are people born this way, or is it something they learn, or catch?
Originally posted by GBU (Ma'ake) on ub5 View PostMy hunch is Niumatalolo realized the triple-option is his forte, in terms of pure football expertise, and BYU fans weren't going to go for that. I wonder if Holmoe gave him a full sense of the pressures in Provo, their predicament in the P5 wilderness, and the craving for a return to an age of glory that has taken on Paul Bunyan proportions, in large part because they were the unquestioned kings of football in the Intermountain West, and Utah, Boise and also TCU have blown past them in football prestige.
Niumatalolo's BYU moment has passed, so it's academic now.
Sitake I think will jump at the chance, even though I think he doesn't fully appreciate what he's getting into. Kalani was ready to become a head coach last year, and the insider assumption was it would be one of the MWC schools (UNLV, CSU, or maybe USU).
It's hard to know what Sitake's upside is as a head coach, because the job is so different, but trying to lead BYU nation out of the wilderness will be a freakishly difficult job, even for a highly skilled & seasoned head coach.
. . . . . . .
I think Sitake has the ingredients to be a very good head coach, but if he got frustrated with the Oregon State defense this year and said some things in the media I'm sure he'd like to take back, the pressures in Provo will make Oregon State look like a high school job.
Kalani has gotten a bit "rotund" in the past few years. I really hope he's on some blood pressure medication.
. . . . . . .
His first year in Corvallis was pretty rocky, even though they seemed to have some young talent. Even though Bronco's a weirdo, he had BYU at a pretty high level of mediocrity, given their constraints, but it was waaay under what the fans expected. Now BYU's schedule is turning into a grinder, and Sitake's Corvallis '15 experience could be extended at Provo, where the fans are both desperate and delusional.
If Kalani takes some time to really think it through, he might pass. I wonder if Holmoe has a pulse on this. He might want to get him inked ASAP.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
