Ftr I acknowledge Utah made football plays on those first possessions. Their pass rush was more than we could handle. They outplayed us and coaching might have contributed.
That said, it's extremely lucky for the result of that to be a 35-0 score. Further, I'm still not sure what is meant by coming out flat, so I would have to address that with each person's own specific definition.

I noticed that not once over the past year did you fly somewhere to fight someone. It would have been free and you didn't do it. Chickenshit move, bro.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostScrew all y'all. I dare any of you to come to San Antonio where we can meet and eat lunch while discussing sports and eating good food. Jay I think your initial position was correct. Playing one of the worst first quarters in the history of college football probably had nothing to do with game prep or coaching. These things just happen and coaches are completely powerless to stop or avoid them!Originally posted by jay santos View PostFtr I acknowledge Utah made football plays on those first possessions. I’ll be the first to admit my football IQ is relatively low. I think Bronco is a great coach but it does appear that his record against Utah speaks to a flaw(s) in his coaching abilities.Originally posted by Shaka View PostThis thread continues to amaze. I'm further convinced that neither Topper or Douger know the first thing about football.
BYU adjusted after some really crazy bad luck. The way they picked themselves up after that and adjusted isn't just because the players decided to not roll over. The coaches did their job and the combination put BYU in a position to possibly tie the game. I don't agree with all of Anae's game calls (especially a third down draw play in the red zone and all deep routes on third and short) but he did a good job adjusting and taking advantage of what Utah was doing. The defense got put in bad spot after bad spot but they played great football for over three quarters. The stunts and blitz packages that kept Utah on their toes weren't called by the players, it was Bronco sending those in.
I've been monitoring CB and frankly it's disgusting the way many are going after Bronco. Their criticism is in no way based in reality or any type of sound football knowledge.
Bronco is 3- 7 versus Utah (5 straight losses after beginning 3 and 2 against them). How would you explain this disparity? At certain point, consistent bad luck against a particular team just doesn’t hold water. Does it come down to simply Utah having more talent? I would be curious to see what Bronco’s winning percentage against teams that are clearly more talented than BYU. Does it come down to Bronco’s rigid philosophy that he doesn’t want to deviate from? Is it the result of KW knowing exactly the personnel that BYU has the ability to get and his system is designed to exploit this personnel? IS it the players that just don’t buy in to Bronco’s game plan and just don’t perform?
I think Bronco will bring success to Virginia. I would imagine that he will get them a couple of season ending top 25 finishes. But I suspect over time the same issues he had at BYU will occur with Virginia.

What sucks is how often BYU was just totally unlocks against Utah, while also never being that lucky against Utah.Originally posted by YOhio View PostJay I think your initial position was correct.
