I'd trade the big man Utah signed yesterday for Keita (Utah's no. 7 player last season whose playing time decreased as the season went on) in a second, and they have the same eligibility remaining.

Maybe I'm missing something, so help me out. Seems to me the money is all about recruting.

Here's the truly bad news. There will always be programs that can outspend Utah and BYU. Utah had possibly the best point guard in the Big 12 returning this season, but of course could not outspend St. John's. From what I've seen, BYU's whole team bailed.

So, in a regime that's without contracts or salary caps, the erstwhile NCAA is going to turn into a pro minor league that's essentially a 12-team circle jerk. Boring.
I feel like you're either just trolling or perhaps haven't glanced at twitter or recruiting rankings or even just a newspaper in the past few days.

Don't worry the Pac 12 is holding all the cards. Playing the long game.

Oh, I forgot last year's final four run! Maybe that's what Lebowski was referring to!
You are resonding to a post I didn't make, apparently about the comparative recent success of the two programs.

I was asking what Utahs excuse for a pretty piss poor program (given history and their privileged position in the power 5) since Andrew Bogut if the excuse going forward is going to be Mormon money. Yes thank you for reminding me of that two season run 10 years ago that broke up the suck.

Ah, you have much to learn about the premier basketball program in the state. Andrew bogut was a majerus recruit! Since then, we've been too the sweet sixteen with a whole 'nother batch of future nbaers. And Mormon money has never been my excuse for anything: we're fresh off of a final four run last year! The sky is the limit!

I agree with SU that Utah is in a great position and currently killing it on recruiting. They should totally keep their current coach, maybe sign him to a five year extension just to be safe.

Not trolling. My question was sincere. Utah outrecruited BYU this year. The numbers don't lie. Utah also didn't lose its entire team this year.

Utah's stats are understated because Miro Little is undervalued. No. 39 player in the nation in last year's freshman class and landed in the wrong place at Baylor and will be phenomenal. Whether Utah can keep him for three years is another issue.

BYU also couldn't keep its coach.

It appears to me they aren’t yet factoring Egor’s commitment into that score. He has an N/A for stars and an n/a for a 247 score and a 247 composite score. So, I’ll go ahead and assume the projected lottery pick will garner 5 stars and something near a top ten 247 score and composite score. I will also assume this change will have a rather significant effect on BYU overall ranking as a team’s highest rated recruit is apparently a large part of their overall ranking. Even without him they are top 25 composite.

If they're not counting him, how do you explain BYU's no. 23 composite rank with three three stars as incoming freshman besides him? Notwithstanding that, BYU is 59 overall because of its transfer ranking. Also, who is this Russian point guard going to dish to?

I don't know. He has no scores on any of the rankings sites yet so how would he be reflected in the rankings? Composite takes into account the different rankings of several other recruiting services, not just the 247sports ranking. I believe it includes ESPN, Rivals and On3 so however they combine and calculate those scores, it seems to favor BYU. I would agree that it makes sense that Demin has scores on the other sites, but he does not have listed scores on any of those sites that I can see.. One last note, those 3 stars you mock are all high 3 stars on 247 (4 star begins at 90 rating there) and are 4 stars on all the other sites.
