I'm honestly confused. All this talk about BYU's vast war chest and I don't see it translating into remarkable recruits in football or basketball. I see the same ho hum recruits, and in 2024 Utah has out-recruited BYU in football and basketball. I'd trade the big man Utah signed yesterday for Keita (Utah's no. 7 player last season whose playing time decreased as the season went on) in a second, and they have the same eligibility remaining.
Maybe I'm missing something, so help me out. Seems to me the money is all about recruting.
Here's the truly bad news. There will always be programs that can outspend Utah and BYU. Utah had possibly the best point guard in the Big 12 returning this season, but of course could not outspend St. John's. From what I've seen, BYU's whole team bailed.
So, in a regime that's without contracts or salary caps, the erstwhile NCAA is going to turn into a pro minor league that's essentially a 12-team circle jerk. Boring.When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
