Nick Howell said today that Bronson practiced all of last week and Monday/Tuesday this week. He will play on Friday.

The defense has been solid, but gets run down because the offense doesn't do anything. The team played pretty well against Wake Forest, struggled but won against Idaho State, struggled but lost to Arkansas State, and got blown out against Tennessee.

Holy moly. Exhibit A why the spread is accurate.

Their offensive line sucks. Mark Weber is their OLine coach, so this was inevitable.

Before I knew about that Idaho State tidbit, I dropped Mark Weber's name in a long-winded soliloquy this morning about all the reasons we're going to demolish Utah State. That's really a name that I blame above many others for our struggles during the dark post-Hall years.

BYU had its first bye of the season last week, but the practice sessions leading up to it may have indicated otherwise. According to both players and coaches, practice sessions were intense, physical, and very much different than what coach Bronco Mendenhall has administered in recent years...

...“We were a lot more physical and a lot more demanding on them last week than we‘ve probably ever been before,” he said. “This team seems to want that and can handle it. We have more depth, so we can practice harder than what we normally do.”

I blame Weber as well. My USU friends said "Well, this and that, bla bla bla, it's not Webers fault" and I was like "Give him a few years. Your line will be garbage." Looks like that has happened already.

USU is just returning to their statistical norm. The MWC is so weak this year they can probably still make a bowl game, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to Boise and CSU, maybe AFA and Wyoming as well. Their downturn will probably just continue. I don't cheer against USU, but I'd rather it not be a difficult game every year either.
