Looks like even with JJ back Davis will make the start.

New BYU depth chart shows Michael Davis starting at field corner over Jordan Johnson; Rob Daniel starting at BC over Jordan Preator.
      OL depth chart:

No "or" designation on BYU OL two-deep; Starters: Lapuaho, Johnson, Koroma, Stringham, Wesley.
      I'd almost forgotten about Mathews:

Bronco said OL Ryker Mathews has to sit out 1 more game due to some sort of academic suspension. Michael Yeck (broken toe) due back for UH.
J Swag Daddy in being typically awesome:

Jamaal Williams and Bronco talked about a pancake block Ed Fusi made in UConn game. "He baptized the guy," Williams said.

Burnt Orange? Meh. Don't waste your time there. ShaggyBevo is where it's at.

So who was it that hit Ash last year that gave him a concussion? For the life of me I can't remember, though I know KVN got to him several times.

That seems to be where Ash's problems started.

Fua made contact w/Ash several times during that game too.

On Ash's last play before he went out, Pikula is credited w/the tackle, though if you watch the replay, Kaufusi helped finish him off also.

Harvey Jackson, who was not listed on last Monday's depth chart, is now listed as the backup at one safety spot after performing well against the Huskies.

Wasn't his supposed strength in run support? He might come in handy for what we see out of Texas with Ash out.

                  Shaggy Bevo getting it started

Mormons you run into these days tend to be real square and polite. When their kids go astray they're called "jack mormons", and they've been raised to believe real drugs/vice = caffeine and behave accordingly... lots of wild behavior...

I just got negged to $#@! on another thread after I posted about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Fact remains that Brigham Young was a terrible person and defeating BYU is a moral imperative.
You sure this "mountain meadows massacre" didn't happen in Provo last year?

Of note but slightly under the radar - Kesni Tausinga is back this week. Having another 300-plus run-stopper in the mix could be crucial given that Texas is certain to try and get going downhill on us and test our interior run D.

Kesni, Marques both back are going to be huge. Also Langi will be backing up at one of the Mike positions. Lots of depth for this game.

On the radio broadcast of the UCONN game, Lyons kept commenting on the inability of the ILBs to get off blocks leading to 5+ yard running gains up the middle. I didn't notice it watching the game. If true, I expect Texas to pound away.

UCONN rushed 31 times for 71 yards, a 2.3 YPC average, so that cannot have happened very often.

That said - I do remember a couple of instances where it played out like that and this is why the return of not one but two 300 pound run killers is so crucial. Given that in Bronco's D the interior DL is meant to eat blockers so that ILBs can make plays, Tuiloma at 285 was having to bear the brunt of that for most of the game.

UConn only had 71 yards rushing in the game. They rushed the ball 31 times for an average of 2.3 and MLB Zac Stout led all BYU players with 10 tackles. JLD was 4th on the team with 5.

We had 4 sacks in the game, but take those out of the rushing totals and we still held UConn to just 90 yards rushing for 3.3 ypc.

We're going to stack the box and make Swoopes beat us with his arm.

That 3.3 ypc against UConn has me worried. Texas has better runners and blockers and 3.3 ypc is nearly good enough for a first down every 3 plays. I wasn't impressed with our D in the second half, I hope that was the typical Bronco opening game struggles and not something more systemic that we'll be struggling with all year. That and the penalties. We won't beat Texas with 15 penalties.

I think you're right that we still have something to prove there, but given that our arguably top two run-defending DL - and definitely our two biggest - (Marques and Tausinga) were not playing, that 3.3 is pretty solid. If we'd had those two (or even one of them) I'd be concerned. You will note that if you multiply 3.3 x 3 it still doesn't get you a first down.
