I believe we will score more than twenty for several reasons.

First, the O Line has improved, and last year's O line was sufficient to open holes. I realize Texas will be more disciplined, but I don't believe you correct that many deficiencies in one year. The hostile environment should pose a problem, but Taysom is a year older.

Second, Taysom already showed signs of better judgment.

Third, the wide receivers are better than last year.

Fourth, Jamal should also be improved.

I am not convinced Texas has improved significantly yet. We should also get some turnovers.

    • Texas d is much much better. I think we score more than 20. I predicted a win but they held a 10 win team from last year to 3 completed passes last week. They had more interceptions than North Texas had completions. This will not be the same d we saw last year. Not even close.

You might be correct, but I am hoping against hopes. Perhaps this will be a defensive game then. I am certainly no paragon of prognostication.

You may need to evaluate from the Texas side of the ball. What's holding Texas back? It isn't talent. That leaves coaching - and the previous coaching staff is gone. The last time the Longhorns had a coaching change they went from 4-7 to 9-3. It will be a close game and hopefully a BYU win because Texas hasn't improved significantly enough yet...it's too early in the season.

We shall see how much they have improved defensively. I remain to be convinced that they have improved offensively, especially with the current losses and suspensions.

BYU may be treading water defensively, but it should be equal or better offensively.

That 10 win team is a bit deceiving. They won 10 games against teams who had won a combined 38 games. Their best win was Ball State who also won 10 games. Take that game out and they played 9 teams who had won on average just over 3 games each.

But I agree that their defense will be better. They always had athletes and talent there but were in poor positions to make plays.

Everyone is talking about Taysom. But people forget that Baby J gashed them for 182 yards and Lasike had 87. Most of those were runs between the tackles. Forget Taysom, they couldn't even take the dive away from the read option.

The difference this year is our offense is improved as their defense is also. But their offense is not good and our defense is still good. They had issues last week. Sure they won handily, but they only had 350 yards of total offense and converted about 25% of their 3rd downs. Now their starting QB is out, their starting center (started 40 consecutive games) is out and their two tackles are out. Their offensive line this week will have just 4 combined starts among them. They're moving a guard to play tackle. Swoopes is not the second coming of Vince Young. Fua and Bronson are going to have monster games. I wouldn't be surprised if Swoopes doesn't finish the game and they burn Jarrod Heard's redshirt.

                  Different talent. Different coaching staff.

He also rushed for 259 yards. Swoopes isn't going to do that.

While I'm still nervous about our D-line, this actually makes me feel uncharacteristically optimistic. I had forgotten that JW had been approaching 200 rushing yards by himself. Here's hoping he has a chip on his shoulder after sitting out against UConn.

                              • I wonder what the BYU upset this year will change at UT....

BYU upset was program-changer for Texas

The dam broke just before 8 p.m. What ensued stunned Texas to its core and set in motion the downfall of a regime.

At that precise moment, one hour and six minutes in, Taysom Hill ran right up the middle. Five Texas defenders cleared a clean path with diving missing tackles and half-speed effort.

Hill's second touchdown dash, a 20-yarder, gave BYU a 17-14 lead. There was 7:48 left in the first half, but the game was almost over.

The Longhorns didn’t just go on to lose 40-21 that night. They’d lose their quarterback, their defensive coordinator, their next game and eventually their coaching staff. And if you ask Texas players today, they lost some dignity that fateful night in Provo, Utah.

“That’s probably the most embarrassed I’ve ever been,” cornerback Quandre Diggs said.

As receiver John Harris solemnly put it: “I think that was one of the all-time lows for us as a team in general.”

What will motivate Texas on Saturday night, when Hill and BYU visit Austin for a rematch, won’t be payback so much as pride. Charlie Strong’s staff didn’t hesitate this summer to remind players about the butt-whooping the then-No. 15 Longhorns received on Sept. 7, 2013.
