The season isn't in the books yet. If we win the bowl game I'll be satisfied with the season. If we lose, I'll be disappointed with the final record.

You seem to be suggesting that success means outperforming how you expect to perform. I'm sorry - but that leaves a very narrow window as far as what success is. I guess in some ways success depends upon what your goals were. BYU was unsuccessful at winning 10 games this year.
