The season isn't in the books yet. If we win the bowl game I'll be satisfied with the season. If we lose, I'll be disappointed with the final record.

BYU was predicted to go 8-4 and Utah was predicted to go 5-7. Right on the money in both cases.

Nobody can claim that BYU over- or under-achieved this year.
I agree with the statement that this wasn't a bad season. But lots of people predicted at lest 8 wins, as JL demonstrated. I'm pretty sure we have a thread here where many of us predicted at least 8 wins. Pretty sure I did.

My recollection of my prediction was eight or nine wins during the regular season, so we're pretty much where I expected to be.

I stand corrected. They have been in and out of the polls.

So being where you expected, is that success or not?

It's meeting expectations. It's fine for now. I want to see improvement in future seasons.

You seem to be suggesting that success means outperforming how you expect to perform. I'm sorry - but that leaves a very narrow window as far as what success is. I guess in some ways success depends upon what your goals were. BYU was unsuccessful at winning 10 games this year. But if they did about what was expected, isn't that success?

I'm not exactly overjoyed or excited by this year's season. I'm a little disappointed at some of the outcomes. But I'm not disappointed in that I think the season was a failure as much as recognizing that there were some missed opportunities.

You might enjoy sports more if you take more of a Lavell approach - don't let the wins get you down, and don't let the losses get you down even more.

I can do that with every team but BYU. With BYU, I am hoping for special seasons. With other teams, it is easy to do. With BYU, not so much.

That is the nature of being a fan. Otherwise would not watch.

No it isn't. For the life of me, I can't imagine why you follow sports.

To agonize over what might have been. It is a form of self-flagellation.
