I think it was better this year. We won the same amount of games against a tougher schedule.

BYU was predicted to go 8-4 and Utah was predicted to go 5-7. Right on the money in both cases.
Nobody can claim that BYU over- or under-achieved this year."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Crap. I must not have been paying attention. Here I thought BYU had won 8 games - and now you're telling me that 6 of those were actually losses?Originally posted by Topper View Post

Part of me wants to call up Bill Riley and ask him, now that the regular season is over, how he did with his picks.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostAnybody remember this thread?

At the start of the year he put the over/under for both BYU and Utah at 6 wins. He took the under for BYU, predicting a 5-7 season. He took the over for Utah, predicting 8-4. Hans was a little kinder to BYU with his predictions, giving them 7 wins.

I don't know if it's independence or the effect of the BCS or the lack of rivalry game at end of year or the timing of those two big road losses, but I could not possibly feel more blah about this football team. Flipping back and forth between the Alabama-Auburn game and the BYU-Nevada game with 5,000 people in the stands and kids playing nerf football in the background was painful. Did we peak early or was it just the circumstances that made it seem that way?

Those six wins were against Boise, which had a down year for them, Nevada with a losing season, Georgia Tech with a mediocre season for them, Idaho State (are you kidding me, that's more of a practice), Middle Tennessee, and Utah State. Do you see any of those wins to count as major victories?Originally posted by Eddie View PostCrap. I must not have been paying attention. I see maybe Boise in light of their succession of victories over BYU as arguable, and Georgia Tech because of being in the ACC. The other four are expected and are nothing to write home about. Do you call it successful to win games you're supposed to win by a lot? I realize the SEC is proud of annihilating little sisters of the poor, but the joy isn't quite there for me."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

The 8 and 4 season is kinda a no-win type of season. If you complain that it wasn't successful, many will deride the comments. Yet isn't enough to make you feel warm in the bosom afterwards, like watching Ty's defeat of Miami or the 1996 season.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI don't know if it's independence or the effect of the BCS or the lack of rivalry game at end of year or the timing of those two big road losses, but I could not possibly feel more blah about this football team. If BYU had only lost to Utah and won out, then I could enjoy the season despite a loss to Utah, but losing to Utah and the two marquee games, kinda takes the wind out of the sails of my enthusiasm."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Wins are always successes. Losses are failures. Wins are never failures. It's really that simple. I haven't seen anyone here chirping about this being the best season ever. But it was a successful season. This wasn't a bad BYU team. They weren't great. They weren't bad. The best description is probably that they had a good season. They certainly won more than 2 games.Originally posted by Topper View PostThose six wins were against Boise, which had a down year for them, Nevada with a losing season, Georgia Tech with a mediocre season for them, Idaho State (are you kidding me, that's more of a practice), Middle Tennessee, and Utah State. You missed the part where I said it was, but Texas ending unranked diminished its importance. Nonetheless, defeating Texas doesn't suck.Originally posted by Eddie View PostI thought Texas was kind of a marque game too
