Unless this offense gets a lot better real quick, we will have our first losing season of Bronco's career. The internet will be calling for Bronco, Anae, and Hill's head from now until next season. We already have idiots on twitter calling for Holmoe's head, which makes absolutely no sense at all.
As for me, I expected that we would win this game, and I expected the offense to be better than it was ... but I also expected that we would have a rough start with the GFGH change. I thought there were glimpses of an amazing offensive scheme there and am willing to give Anae a chance to put things together. No one on the team is experienced running this type of offense. It was not reasonable to not expect some growing pains. Everyone on the offense needs to get better, with the possible exception of Jamal (he looked good, though I'm sure he could help a bit more with blocking).
I imagine I will be avoiding a lot of football discussion on the internet this year. I can't deal with the morons. This board is the one place that seems close to reasonable.

This I can agree to. I refuse to give up after this one. Very strange game that we had no business losing, but lost still the same. I remember back in the day we regularly had bad losses early on and ended up doing well in the end. I still hold out hope.Originally posted by YOhio View PostI really wouldn't read too much into this one game. The weather was horrible, Hoffman was out, the players had to sit for two hours in the middle of the game and it was the first game with a completely new offensive system and coaching staff. It was weird all the way around and I think the offense showed glimpses of being almost worthy of sharing the same uniform as the Defense. It will take time to gel.

All Taysom needs to do right now is go up to Dick Harmon and say this:
Goosebumps.“To the fans and everybody in Cougar Nation, I’m sorry. I’m extremely sorry. We were hoping for an undefeated season. That was my goal. I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season. You will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season. You will never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season. God bless.”

I didn't criticize him for playing it safe against Utah. It was the smart move. I get that he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Every loss, fairly or not, will be pinned on Anae. He knows that.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostFurthermore, everyone was furious with Anae for playing it safe against Utah and then our FG got blocked. You can't blame him for trying to get a first down there. Williams should have caught the ball. One play is the difference in the game.
I actually don't pin the loss on him. I think that was a bad call, but I understand it. The offense just isn't ready for primetime yet. That shouldn't be surprising. Anae deserves some leeway here to get things rolling. Doman really didn't leave him with much.

Williams not making the catch, Bret Thompson drop, Hill not being able to see the open man. This is all play from a young team. As a fan base we have to be patient. But I'm not sure the college football land scape will. If Utah is resurgent, it will hurt recruiting.

Those are definitely good points. I think this offense looks completely different by the end of the season. I just hope they can get bowl eligible. We could use the extra practices.Originally posted by YOhio View PostI really wouldn't read too much into this one game. The one that really pissed me off was the D-Sor hold on the kickoff return. He's a vet. No excuse for that one and it hurt bad.Originally posted by USUC View PostWilliams not making the catch, Bret Thompson drop, Hill not being able to see the open man. I like the decision to throw the ball on that 3rd down. You get it, you effectively end the game. It was a good play call, a good throw, the ball went through Williams hands and there happened to be a defender right there - bad luck, nothing more.I'm like LeBron James.

Of all the dumb things that get said after each loss, this might be tonight's winner. That Utah game was a debacle. Tonight was a debacle, and a harbinger of things to come. It's going to get worse before it gets better.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostI didn't criticize him for playing it safe against Utah. It was the smart move.
