Not a coincidence he was out of the game when Virginia scored on that 13 yard run. Big big loss.

Such a bummer. We had that one and let it get away.

Count me among those that think you run it on 3 & 6. You open yourself up to so many possible twists of bad luck-- a pass thrown just a bit too high, a wet ball squirting through a sure-handed back's hands, the corner being in just the right place to catch it-- when you throw instead of just eating another thirty seconds by giving it to a guy for whom a six yard pickup wasn't impossible, either. That said, it was more a matter of bad luck than bad play calling. It wasn't that big of a risk. It just sucks that it turned out as it did.

I would have been much more upset about this game if the offense hadn't shown signs of life in the fourth quarter. It just took us three quarters to figure out how to get our offense to produce. Really, if the offense had given one more quarter of decent production, we win that game, and possibly comfortably. If we can get consistent production from here on out, we still have a chance to have a pretty good year.

That said, counting to six is a little more daunting of a prospect right now. Between Texas, Utah, Utah State, Boise State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Nevada, we will have to come up with some wins in big games just to make it to bowl eligibility.

I have a hard time taking anything good or bad away from a game that had a 2 hour intermission before halftime. Always sucks to lose, but this was pretty extreme circumstance.

Yeah the line is the big question mark for this team. They didn't even know who our good linemen were coming in for Pete's sake. Too bad we couldn't get the W while learning these hard knocks. Onward and upward.

I think the question has been answered. They aren't very good.

Bronco said that they thought they would wear them down as a result of the pace and gain momentum. That is what started to happen, then they got momentum back with the lucky pick. Bronco said they felt like they were wearing UVA down at the end of the first Q and gaining momentum, but the delay allowed them to start the second quarter fresh which undermined the effect of the pace in the first half.

That all makes sense, but I do think another part of it is getting the game to slow down for our offense while running at a fast pace. They were in a good rhythm in the long scoring drive, but couldn't get anything going during other drives. There were plenty of mistakes, but I didn't see anything that was just stupid like we used to see with Riley. I think the offense will work well once the players get some more experience with it. No one really knows how to make it work yet, but I have faith that it will come together. At least the schemes have some coherence, unlike the last few years.

I agree with LaVell, just win the conference. That's the first goal.

I really don't understand people who compare our offense to last year's. Beyond the fact that we were anemic for 80% of the game tonight (the first game of a new offensive scheme with a major act of God disrupting things), I see very few similarities between our situation this year and the situation we had under Doman. We have a QB that can throw (unlike Riley, he can make all the throws ... his accuracy will improve). We have an OC that knows how to produce a Top 15 offense. We are installing a new scheme that none of the players have any experience with.

I really don't see many similarities at all. I don't think it is fair to claim this is "more of the same."

Only players on this team do have experience with an Anae offense. I don't buy that Anae has completely changed his scheme in 2 years. This difference, IMO, is that Anae and 2J have to undo 2 years of Doman and Weber.
