The level of string pulling by some here is amazing. It was a very disappointing loss. But seriously, it was one game, on the road, in horrible conditions with a "new" OC/offense, while coming off of two years of horrible offensive production/coaching. The defense still looked good. It will take more than one game to turn the offense around. Hopefully, it will look better after time in the film room. Besides Bronco has a thing for 1-2 starts, so we're still on track for another 10-2 season.

The OLine isn't just going to magically get better with scheming and experience. It's not a good group. Find the best six or seven guys and play them. You gain cohesiveness as a unit by being very familiar with the guy next to you. That doesn't work if you have a different guy there every other series. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

This little tid bit is interestingOriginally posted by SCcoug View PostOgletree had a nice postmortem on his blog.
This is the type of stuff a game-film-freak like Whittingham will exploit.• EVERY TIME the offense is in two-back gun and Paul Lasike walks up and taps the O Line on the behind to communicate the protection, it’s pass (otherwise, the fullback would not be communicating to the offensive line). This is a fairly obvious key for any fully functioning linebacker or safety to pick up on (there are less of them in football than you might think). The third or fourth time I noticed this just happened to be a Virginia blitz. I’m not sure if that had been called prior to the signal, or if the defense checked to a blitz in response to the signal, but it’s obvious, and either it has to go, or the fullback has to deliver a false key on run plays too. Because the University of Texas LB coaches are in meetings with their players right now telling them to tee off on the quarterback whenever they see that.Last edited by USUC; 09-02-2013, 09:04 AM.

Man, that bit on the defense only made me feel bad for them. They've been playing their asses off the last two years only to be continually let down by the offense. Sucks.Originally posted by SCcoug View PostOgletree had a nice postmortem on his blog.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

The thing that worries me about GFGH is that unless we're scoring a lot of points on it, the only thing we're doing is giving the other team more chances to score. That's a lot of pressure to put on our defense.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostSometimes I feel like I watch a completely different game than some of the posters here.
Go fast go hard may not have produced the points I would have liked but the tempo was insane amd UVA was clearly gassed. The lightening storm actually saved them they were wearing down. Also the delay came right in the middle of a solid byu drive."The mind is not a boomerang. If you throw it too far it will not come back." ~ Tom McGuane

Have you ever heard a recruit say they weren't interested in BYU because they weren't in a conference? Have you ever heard a recruit say they chose a school for the opportunity to win a conference title? I have not seen a single piece of evidence that being independent has had any impact on recruiting. In fact, our recruiting seems to be getting better than it was in the MWC.Originally posted by Shaka View PostYes, get in a conference. Athletes want something to play for besides spirit and honor. The current situation at BYU would not have appealed to me when I was seventeen years old and I was raised a die hard.
You reap what you sew and unfortunately I think a tougher recruiting environment could easily be a byproduct of independence.

I was amazed how much he moves around on defense and always seemed to be in the right place. He has a great nose for the ball. He was also 1 of 2 defensive players to stay on the field for special teams. Smart to maximize a talent like that as much as possible. One question for those in the know...why does he sit on the bench opposite of the rest of the team, by himself? Once or twice someone would call him over to the phone to talk upstairs. Other than that, KVN was by himself and everyone seemed to know to leave him alone. As soon as it was time for the defense to go back on the field, he would be back in action and never miss a beat. No one seemed to be bothered by his actions (or non actions as it were) on the sidelines. Just an observation I picked up on while watching live.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostKvn is still a stud. Watching him destroyed tackles is a thing of beauty. On one play he straight bull rushed his man and drove him back 10 yards right in to the qb. A few plays later he fakes the bull rush, swims and the lineman completely whiffs.
He uncharacteristically missed some tackles but the guy is an absolute game changer.
