Only players on this team do have experience with an Anae offense. I don't buy that Anae has completely changed his scheme in 2 years. This difference, IMO, is that Anae and 2J have to undo 2 years of Doman and Weber.

Did you watch the same game I did? We have never seen anything close to that kind of pace from BYU before. He may have called some similar plays, but it is completely different when you are running them at that pace.

The OL is the weakest link, but everyone on offense (except Jamal) was sub-par tonight. It seems clear to me that they are all still struggling to get things put together. It also seems obvious that the focus right now is on pace at the expense of execution. I think the idea is that the players will get used to the pace and eventually the execution will come. I think that makes sense, and may be the only way to really implement this system. It means some ugliness at first though.

I wish williams would have knocked it to the dirt rather than bumped it into coverage. Or better yet caught it and hit the dirt. Oh well- that's the game of football. The coaches gave the team a chance to win in the end but we couldn't capitalize.

I realize he is going to say its on him and to a certain degree it is. BYU probably wins this game if its a run call. But the play was there to be had. Jamaal was open and it would have been a first down. Had it worked it would have been jailed as a great play call .

I think I did. Yes, the O-line needs work. The O-line was also a major weakness under Doman and Weber. It was clear that Anae instilled a lot of the go fast mindset. But he wasn't really starting out with a stellar unit from last year either. So while the O-line showed some promise it still needs major improvements. It was encouraging that as the game wore on the ground game got better. I don't think that was all play calling or all Williams. The O-line is crucial in a ground 'n pound game that gets better as the game wears on.

I get that but when he DID get the ball off he was consistently off target.

And another thing, I had heard a ton of hype about Mitch Matthews. I wasn't that impressed.

Several great QBs have had terrible games as sophomores. Taysom was bad, but I don't think we should be reading too much into his potential from this game. Very tough conditions to play in. Absolutely terrible pass protection. Lots of drops. Huge puddles on the field. Best WR out the entire game. He has to get more accurate, but I think he has the potential to be one of the BYU greats by the time he is a senior.

Furthermore, everyone was furious with Anae for playing it safe against Utah and then our FG got blocked. You can't blame him for trying to get a first down there. Williams should have caught the ball. One play is the difference in the game.
