We'll know a lot more about the new-look Washington State team following Thursday night's game. And as for BYU's current coach, Bronco Mendenhall? Leach said they are casual acquaintances.

"He's a really good surfer," Leach said. "... I've seen all his football stuff. We've watched 13 games worth to the point where we're really not interested in seeing blue Cougars. We're only interested in seeing red Cougars. Bronco is an interesting guy and he does a lot of interesting things. I think Kav might struggle in this game and think Stout could be a better matchup against Leach's offense. LBs tend to get tested against Leach, and I'm not sure Kav is quick enough in coverage to be most effective. Should be interesting to see how that plays out.

I saw Kyle Van Noy at Cubby's Chicago Beef in Provo yesterday (if you're ever there, try the Mr. Beef sandwich). Dude looks much bigger and badder in person. I wished him good luck on Thursday and he said in his funny almost cracking voice: "thanks man, I appreciate it."

Stout hurt his achilles tendon Monday nite and is out this week. I am doubting he ever stays healthy consistently. I forsee a great deal of 2-4-5 tomorrow. The two will be a rotation between Tialeeva, Fuga and Manu as Ian Dulan is also out. I could forsee some Mike Muehlman and perhaps some Simote Vea as well. The 4 LBs will be Fua and Ziggy at OLBs, Hadley at ILB and Kyle Van Noy doing whatever the hell he pleases. The two starting middle backers will also play a great deal as well but I think we see both the starting ILBs sub out a great deal against this offense - I do think Hadley will play a great deal of ILB this week along with either Kav or Tree, with Fua playing a great deal at Hadley's normal position. Then I forsee Ziggy subbing in for one of the two starters at ILB. The 5 at DBs will be Preston Hadley, JJ, Sanford, Sorenson and Hague with Bills subbing in along with Buckner. That right there will be the 18 defensive players who play until the Cougars put the game away!

I'm all for taking Friday off. I'll probably do that myself. In fact, that sets things up for a nice, extended holiday weekend.
