Ben Criddle said today he is a great run blocker but not a good pass blocker. Don't know of he knows what he is taking though.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostHe has good size. I wonder why ASU dropped him. Low man on the schollie totem pole?

And the 2010 class was a total dud at the top end.
I'm excited!

So this year is slightly below average, but better than the last two years.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostScout.com rankings of BYU recruiting classes over the last 12 seasons

Of course - 2010 kind of stands out a little like a sore thumb. The 4* and 5* guys from that class include Heaps (of course) as well as Apo, Stout, Rowley, and Kaufusi.
As far as actually contributing on the field, I guess this next year will tell the tale for some of the above (and the rest of the class).
To be honest, I think the whole Ben Olson and Jake Heaps build up and let down has kind of soured me on recruiting. Now I'm just glad that a bunch of players that BYU coaches wanted to come to BYU decided to do so. And I recognize that there were some other players they would've liked to have come who decided not to. In the end I hope some that did come end up playing OK.

Part of the problem with recruiting evaluations is they don't take into account whether the kids are shitheads or not.Originally posted by Eddie View PostSo this year is slightly below average, but better than the last two years.

I did notice that some of the names are names I don't recognize as being on the team for the past couple of years. I'm assuming that while some are just gone, a few went on missions and will still have the opportunity to contribute in the years to come.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostPart of the problem with recruiting evaluations is they don't take into account whether the kids are shitheads or not.

So it looks like BYU's class is all in. 26 signees in all. The break down by position is as follows:
On offense a total of 12 signees
Offensive Line = 8
WR = 2
TE = 1
QB = 1
On defense a total of 14 signees
Defensive Back = 6
Linebacker = 5
Defensive Line = 3
With 2/3 of the signees on the offensive side, it looks like the coaches are focusing on OL. With that in mind, OL ought to be a strength by 2014 (if not this year).
On the defensive side, the proportion of players for each position seems to fit what I would expect to see on a year to year basis for a team playing a 3-4 base.
And that is my recruiting breakdown. New players came. Cool.
