2012 BYU Football Season

I think Bronco is taking a bum rapp and for the matter so is Riley and any of the other players who are having over the top criticism heaped on them.

Bronco is fullfilling the job description he was given. How I react to his priority for football is number 5 is neither his fault, nor is my reaction my fault.
It is incumbent upon me to support how Sacrament meeting is run, who gives talks at general conference and how ward boundaries are laid out. It is NOT incumbent on me to support the edict Bronco has been given in running the BYU football program. Some may feel that responsibility, but their argument is hollow and basless if they try to say others have to do the same.

You can't have it both or serve two masters. Elite football with the idea that character people are those who are to be the face of the program. That isn't to say there isn't character in the folks who don't get recruited or are backups, but we look for cover boys to show the character and that is more important than how they play on the field.

If I don't like hearing the non football stuff which comes with this program, I can choose to not listen to post game shows, read articles, etc.

Those who make the decisions should pull the blue shades off and look at reality. WE won't be elite unless some parameters for the coach are changed and realize God is not going to intervene to show our way leads to BCS championships.

Elite? We aren't even good. We aren't even in the competition to be good. And we haven't been for a few years. We are a mediocre team, a strongly mediocre team, trending badwards.

Go back and re-read the interview process and see how the "job description" was defined to Bronco and I assume others. I only say "assume" because they haven't openly disclosed what was said to them. From information I have, which in no way in hell would I share with someone with such a condescending attitude as yourself, Reid and Reynolds did not sing the "we can win big" without having football a priority song.

Yea, to Bronco's credit he sang the song the folks doing the hiring wanted to hear. After losses he has gotten verbal and written support from higher ups indicating basically the things he is doing is more important than winning.

Go ahead and rag on Bronco all you want and continue with your lala land belief that RM's and the "right" kind of kids can lead us to the promise land if we only had a great coach.

Bronco is coaching exactly like he said he would. Sure they bought into the vision, but IT WAS A VISION PITCHED BY HIM. It wasn't forced upon him. And you ignored my Dave Rose example or my argument that the shortcomings of the football program go WAY beyond Sunday night firesides and walk-on RMs.

I'm just to the point that I think Bronco is Steve Cleveland, who I really like but wasn't going to take us further than we traveled during his tenure.

Unfortunately, I think Bronco is a great guy and I don't think he's going to be able to get us better than a 10-2 or 9-3 season where we lose to any team with a pulse.

And I can live with that. I get that we're spoiled as a fanbase, overall. I guess I just want the things the teams we're consistently compared with are getting, which is BCS games, moving to a better conference, etc.

I get that much of that is out of our control. But, that's still what I want.

I forgot about Steve Cleveland. There is another BYU head coach that wasn't forced to run a program Bronco-style. I know this for a fact because Steve is a friend of mine.

More of this is on Bronco than you say. But even if he did come to the interview giving the hard sale on the 2000 Stripling Cougars of Helaman or whatever, the people hiring are supposed to be adults in the room and tell him that his job will be to do his job.

If nothing else, the fact that no one apparently put the screws on Doman's SP when Doman got called as Bishop tells me that there is incompetence in high places. Someone needs to re-read about Satan and the savior on the temple, preferably several times a day. Its right there in black and white: God won't bail out your incompetence.

The Irish are my other team (this season, increasingly my main team) so BYU pulling out some ridiculously win wouldn't cheer me much.

The Irish are overrated this year, but the Cougars keep finding ways to lose. I don't think ND's undefeated season is on the line next Saturday.

With BYUTv and 'exposure' and all, what may have been voluntary on Bronco's part may no longer be. I don't actually know, I'm just speculating, but sometimes when you sell your boss on an idea, it no longer becomes your option to discontinue it.

Two things when it comes to BB. First off I think Cleveland was before "the incident" or as others have referred to it, "the scandal".

Second, the BB program is "not" the face of BYU, it is the FB program. I don't see how anyone can refute that. We are Independent for FB and BB got dumped into the conference we are now in. I can't remember the name of it.

Seems to me a large number of people have said in the past that Bronco is the best we could hope for under the "conditions at BYU", so I am not the lone ranger or only crazy person in the room.

That being said I am always an open minded guy. Who do we get to replace Bronco? Remember Kyle and Reid turned us down.

Who out there is going to tell them what they want to hear and be a better coach than Bronco? Maybe the person is out there, but it is still another crap shoot.

Why would they ask Bronco to be a crappy recruiter? Why would they ask Bronco to only work 40 hour weeks? Why would they ask Bronco to be terrible at clock and personnel management?

And if this is an edict from on high, how is that Dave Rose isn't following suit and yet they (the admin) seem to love him?

I don't think they're asking him to be a crummy recruiter. I think it's harder to be at BYU as a student athlete than it was 15 years ago. I also think Bronco has a set of rules that go above and beyond what is required to be a good student and a good athlete at BYU. The grades thing he does is absurd. There's no reason he shouldn't have had guys like Star here.

I think you're probably right. It just boils down to Bronco being what Bronco is, and that's mediocre. Especially now that we're seeing "his" guys in the program now.
