We score 28 points. Without looking it up, I'd guess that's a pretty good BYU score against TCU going back the last six years or so. I wouldn't put it on Nelson.
We probably give up 10-20 points on punt disasters and the two coaching abominations the Mathers 4th down and the bad clock management at end of first half.
Bummer.

Look, Riley did some dumb stuff but he was getting major pressure all night. Part of his problem is lack of experience against this type of team. If he cleaned up a couple of bad decisions BYU possibly wins this game. Watching the film will be good for Riley and I'd wager he will learn from it and apply what he has learned. Unfortunately he will not be able to play a good team until the bowl game or next season.
A bigger problem than Nelson was the fumbled snaps on the punts. Those were ridiculously bad.

Those weren't garden variety mistakes. They were inexcusible, back-breaking, momentum-killing brain farts that a junior QB on an FBS team shouldn't be making. I respect Riley a lot...he is a warrior. But as a QB he just doesn't cut it.Originally posted by aCougarFONT View PostI don't think that is fair tonight. This game comes down to bad special team play by BYU. Nelson has played the same way he has played every game (and in many ways similar to Heaps prior to USU), move the ball down the field and, about half the time, screw up when he gets close to the blue zone.

It did feel like a blow out. But, stats show that BYU outgained TCU and played pretty good D.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostWell, we didn't get blown out. Felt like it, though.
3 horrid turnovers. 3 bad punt situations. Horrible fake FG (well 4th down call in FG territory). Slip on a FG attempt.
Those are horrible mistakes. Limit those, we had a chance. Strange game.

Not fair. His TO's didn't lead to TCU points. He went up against a TCU D that has absolutely wrecked some very good BYU offenses. He's trying to make stuff happen. His performance wasn't far off some of Hall and Beck's against TCU.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostYou don't?
I do. Pick, stupid lateral....drive killers. It isn't all his fault, but he shoulders a majority of the blame, IMO. He gets the glory beating Utah state, tonight this is his loss. At least it seems this way to me.

BYU needs to see what they got with Lark or Munns or flame out with Heaps.
Nelson as a starter doesn't make sense. His decision making is high school level.

His TO's didn't lead to TCU points, but they took away from possible BYU points. Kinda the same thing, no?Originally posted by jay santos View PostNot fair. His TO's didn't lead to TCU points. The Riley apologists are a damn joke. He was terrible tonight. Two redzone turnovers, another terrible decision on his first interception. He averaged a whopping 3 yards per carry tonight. In the 2nd quarter when the game got away from us he was 1-7 with 2ints.
On top of that he threw some absolutely dreadful balls that his receivers made great plays on. I have never seen so many underthrown balls in my life. The guy is awful maybe Heaps is not the answer either but I know Rileys not.
I am sure Bronco will gush about him in the post game and talk about how he needs to clean some things up. But if it were Heaps in this game he would have been given the hook after the first drive in the 3rd quarter.
To say this loss is not on Riley is ridiculous. Yes Stephenson made two mistakes, but two redzone turnovers were the difference in this game and they were both effing terrible decisions by our quarterback.*Banned*

Nope. It's not Riley's fault he has been given the starting job at a position he really has no business playing. He should be playing safety or RB by now if Bronco had any balls at all. Riley is a run-first QB who is being asked to play in a pass-first offense. He doesn't even have a position coach.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostYou don't?

I expect him to have a couple turnovers each game, and he did just that tonight. I respect him for playing hard, and I think he is doing more than any of us thought he could based on his play last year. His play on the field, including his progressions and even his improved arm strength, make it pretty evident that he worked way harder than Heaps this past offseason.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

Bull shit this is not the same TCU defense that Beck and Hall played. NOt the same D that lead the nation in defense 3 straight years. This defense is 38th in total D. They are solid but not elite by any means. They gave up 50 points to Baylor and 40 to SMU.Originally posted by jay santos View PostNot fair. His TO's didn't lead to TCU points. Sorry but they have been vulnerable all year and Riley was unable to exploit that.*Banned*
