  • I'm with Mendenhall on this, I'm not enamored by highly touted recruits either. You play well at the college level, or you can ride the pine, just like everyone else.

    • I think at the point Riley was hurt Bronco already knew Heaps was going to transfer. Harmon's article certainly alludes to the possibility. Maybe this had an effect on Bronco's response.

I agree with Shaka, that at this point Heaps was probably already gone, but I too think it's weird that the media is taking some cheap shots at Bronco. For a group of BYU apologists this is really weird.

If the transfer was that clear to everyone on the staff then maybe Lark should have received some much needed PT.

          • I'm not a huge Bronco fan, but Franchuk is a complete hack. Are sports writers in Utah required to take classes in journalism?

exactly...Bronco and company look really bad in all of this.

You know it is bad when the DN and PDH are taking shots at him and the program.

I think that maybe they were hoping they could subtly convince Jake to stay. There was an interview Doman did a couple of weeks ago where he laying it on thick talking about his love for Jake and the opportunity to coach him. Hindsight tells me it was an indirect plea for Jake to reconsider and possibly an olive branch so they could mend their relationship.

Seriously. For years Harmon has been mocked for being a mouthpiece of the school. Now in just this season he's gone from pieces about Bronco's favorite Mexican restaurant to calling out players family members and the coaching staff.

                  • I would love, l.o.v.e, for Bronco to go full Bobby Knight with the local press. I don't really have a dog in the fight, but think it would be extremely entertaining to watch the slap fight.

I would hope Riley has the autonomy to tell Harmon, "no quote" for all of next season. Bronco/Doman are big boys and receiving big paychecks to handle the crap that comes with the job. Harmon's tossing Riley in the direction, if not under, the bus crossed some lines. Maybe he could follow the example of another large-domed individual -Barry Bonds- in how to aggravate local hacks.

I remember that interview, I think it was with PK. IIRC, there was kind of a strange flow to the call. They spent a bit of time decrying the recruiting process, entitlement of players, etc. After that Brandon had an emotional moment talking about how much he loved Jake and wants him to stay at BYU.

                      • Why so sensitive about the local press taking shots at Bronco? This is all very mild coverage. They have barely said anything and almost all of it is indirect. Bronco needs to feel the heat, so does Whit. Coaches should be called out when they screw up. I don't know why it doesnt happen more often here, actually.
                        Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

It was really weird. Folks complain about Bronco gushing over Riley but interview easily equaled that.

Jake lost the title of Saint the moment he shunned the spirit and transferred. I was referring to the One. (Not JIMMER! )
