Colorado currently has 4-5 California kids committed in this upcoming class. I would have assumed the number to be higher. How many CA kids does Utah have in its upcoming class? Has to be more than 4-5, no? If not, I wonder how quickly that number will increase over the next few seasons.
Colorado typically has a third of their class from CA. So 4-5 CA recruits might not be off if the class is small. Per Rivals, Colorado is currently listed as 3/10 recruits from CA so it would appear to be close to similar classes the past 4 years. What's different is Colorado is listed as 5/10 recruits from TX. Usually Colorado pulls in about 15% of it's class from Texas. But Texas recruits have been committing at earlier dates mostly due to UT and OU filling up their available spots at an earlier date which allows TX prepsters to committ earlier to other schools once UT and OU fill up. So CU having half its class so far being from TX is probably skewed from earlier commits.
Rivals lists Utah has having 2/9 commits from CA (Wilson and McClellon).
Agree that Utah should be signing more California recruits. Colorado will probably increase at a slower rate because they've had a presence in California for some time. That's one of the reasons Colorado left for the PAC-10 is because there are a lot of out-of-state CA students enrolling and CU already has and a sizable alumni base in CA.
I think Utah fill be successfull if it expands it's CA presence now that they will be playing USC and UCLA every year...and continue expanding into Texas. I think the Utes can also exploit AZ more if U. Arizona and ASU don't improve.
