Does that make them zoobs?Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostAnother silly thing about Arizona fans is they aren't content being called Arizona fans, they had to come up with a silly nickname "Zona Zoo" to prove something. Can you imagine how insecure that comes across?Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

What a bunch of condescending tripe; even if it's presented as "general pointers". Perhaps if this advice came from the Trojans - you know, a program that has actually won something in football. But from a Cardinal? The elitism of Stanford (as well as Cal) is a bit too much.Originally posted by Flattop View PostA nice welcome from a Stanford blog, with a list of dos and don'ts:

Here's my own unsolicited advice for Utah in the PAC-12.- DO NOT cultivate a rivalry with Colorado. The author was correct about the Buffs being vicious - there's a reason why no other school will take them as a rival.
- IGNORE the PAC-8 rule. What a bunch of elitist garbage. Makes me wish for Utah winning the PAC-12 every year so the old PAC-8 might decide the Utes are worthy of being a rival.
- Become competitive in Men's BB once again. Continue to be excellent in Women's gymanists and skiing. Make gradual progress in other non-revenue sports as increased revenues permit. Nobody cares much about the "other" sports - let Stanford have their precious Sears Cups.
- DO NOT let the LSJUMB anywhere near Rice-Eccles. Some things are just best ignored.
- Expect to compete for the PAC-12 title and Rose Bowl in 2011. That's the best way to get the PAC-8 to take notice. It would be even better to defeat Stanford in the inaugural PAC-12 CCG.
- The Holy War is not going to go away; don't pretend that it will. It's too much a part of Utah. Insist that the PAC-12 move BYU-Utah back to the end of November.

Also disagree with challenging the PAC12 about moving the BYU game.
Other than that, I agree with your other bullet points. Especially about the other sports. Football is and should remain the top priority. The bball needs to be dramatically improved. Keep women's gym and skiing competitive. As the revenue and facilities improve in football and bball, THEN start "worrying" about softball, etc. You don't support those to the detrmiment of fball and bball. Once fball and bball are up to PAC12 standards in terms of salaries and facilities, THEN invest in the other meaningless sports.

I don't know what's funnier--Stanford fans talking down to Utah fans as if Stanford has ever accomplished anything meaningful in sports, or Utah fans like Flattop deeming it a "nice welcome". Thank you sir, may I have another?Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Olympic sports matter in the PAC 10. Stanford churns out Olympians. They're the all-time leader in individual championships and it's not even close. Stanford can look down their nose at pretty much anyone. And do. Utah is not even close to being on Stanford's level. People can poo-poo the Sears Cup but they're stranglehold on it is damn impressive."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

You mean compared to all that BYU has accomplished and all the "friendly" advice Coug fans here are always providing us Ute fans?Originally posted by Donuthole View PostI don't know what's funnier--Stanford fans talking down to Utah fans as if Stanford has ever accomplished anything meaningful in sports, or Utah fans like Flattop deeming it a "nice welcome". You don't really believe that. But if you do, I guess the joke's on you. FTR, anyone can look down their nose at someone else. Whether or not it is justified is another thing altogether. Yes, Olympic sports matter--for two weeks every 4 years. That they matter to Stanford for the other three years and 50 weeks doesn't make them any more important to anyone else.Originally posted by Surfah View PostStanford has never won a field hockey championship.

Didn't you read that link you posted?
