But if we do, let's keep our WCC commitment for basketball. Wouldn't want to destory all that wonderful Prop 8 PR we made with the Catholics.
But lets get real for a minute. Notre Dame is already in the conference. If AF wont' make the jump, I'm sure the BEast would consider inviting ND for football. And with BYU's "patnership" with the catholics...

It was more of an example of what the WCC needs to do if a team like San Diego State were to leave to the Big East instead of Air Force. Would be logical in my opinion though for the WCC to add a 10th team at least. Even if it's Air Force, it's a travel partner to BYU, a respected service academy, and help's the conference more logistically.Originally posted by jay santos View PostPerfect time to add Boise and AFA for men's basketball? The more it sinks in the more unhappy I get. BEAST entry feels like the consolation prize on a game show. Last summer I remember saying that any plan that included the WCC was a horrible plan. I'm coming around to the same conclusion with the BEAST. It's a bad sign when I have to look at Wikipedia to find out all the conference members.
And another thing. Some folks on CB have pumped this up by noting Notre Dame's involvement. Newsflash. ND has been awful at everything as of late. They have a name, but they're certainly not known for a strategic and smart Athletic Department. Yet we hitched our wagon to a program that won't even put their team in the conference. What a crappy way to close out this crappy season.

OK, pick a different label. The conclusion is the same: We are mediocre and have been since Val Hale fucked up and chose his buddy when we could have hired Reid.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostHow many "majors" are out there? What a stupid way to claim whether a team is major or not

Crappy season caused by what, could it be Independence and lack of scheduling in November?Originally posted by YOhio View PostThe more it sinks in the more unhappy I get. And technically, this solution STILL involves the WCC.Originally posted by YOhio View PostThe more it sinks in the more unhappy I get. BEAST entry feels like the consolation prize on a game show. I take solace knowing that Notre Dame is to thank for all of this and that the PAC will soon be begging us to play Utah in November.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

You're right! Why didn't BYU think of this! If only they could win as many conference championships, or even better - outright conference championships, in the MWC as Utah has to really establish a good track record - I'm SURE they would be in!Originally posted by UtahJazzFan88 View Post...Utah did it in the Mountain West, TCU did it in the Mountain West, and both got into a lot better conferences (and Utah got into a conference that will last if this "super-conference" stuff does happen), why can't BYU do that? What's REALLY the advantages for independence? Exposure, that's it?
I believe BYU won 4 championships in the 11-12 years they were in the conference - tell me how many Utah won again? What about TCU?

1. Top 10 isn't good enough. One to two top 10 teams are left out of the BCS most years. Top 5 is likely the "can't keep 'em out" threshold.Originally posted by jay santos View Post"BCS Access" is such a crock.
1. The BCS now has 10 teams with requirement to be in the top 14. Usually at least one or two teams are disqualified due to being the third team from a conference. That means BYU has an extremely high chance of making the BCS if they are in the top 14. Top 10, I would put almost a surety. Is winning a BCS conference any more difficult than making the top 10? OK, if it's the Big East, maybe. So we do have BCS Access right now. Better said, moving to the Big East will give us "slightly better BCS Access".
2. The Big East's auto bid is not a guarantee.
3. I'm not convinced the BCS will still be around in 10 or 20 years. Why make long term conference affiliation changes based on something that may be temporary?
2. It's a better guarantee than indy brings.
3. BYU doesn't make decisions based on your hunches

...and were they in BCS games in those years? It doesn't matter if you win conference championships in the WAC, MWC, C-USA if you weren't winning BCS games. Who seriously cares about who won more Mountain West Conference championships, like that is meaningful? BCS games are meaningful to those mid-major conferences though.Originally posted by Eddie View PostYou're right! Why didn't BYU think of this! Yes, we haven't been at the elite level on the field. Above average for sure, but not elite.Originally posted by Viking View PostOK, pick a different label. The conclusion is the same: We are mediocre and have been since Val Hale fucked up and chose his buddy when we could have hired Reid.
Point is, that has no bearing on what makes a team "major".

You are young. BCS game isn't the end all, be all in whether a team is taken by a conference.Originally posted by UtahJazzFan88 View Post...and were they in BCS games in those years? It doesn't matter if you win conference championships in the WAC, MWC, C-USA if you weren't winning BCS games.

So you're implying those BCS wins had no meaning at all that the PAC-12 decided to add Utah, and the Big East and Big 12 adding TCU? What made the PAC-12 add Utah then? I forgot that TCU is such a good basketball school! Oh wait. I forgot that Utah is such a good basketball school lately! Oh wait.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostYou are young. Fair enough. Independent is still better than the MWC and The Mtn.Originally posted by YOhio View PostI agree. I also opposed the Indy move.
