  • Big East to extend six invites...

The Big East Conference will invite Boise State, Navy and Air Force for football only and SMU, Houston and Central Florida for all sports, a source with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press.

The conference's member presidents, meeting in Philadelphia, voted unanimously Tuesday to extend invitations to football-only and all-sports members. Commissioner John Marinatto declined to name the schools being targeted.

    [...]

The Big East has been strategizing ways to divide its football teams into east and west divisions for football, with Temple, Memphis and BYU all considered as possible seventh additions, sources told ESPN's Joe Schad.

    [...]

Meanwhile, a conference commissioner source said that there is serious panic within the MWC and C-USA about possibly losing key members of both leagues to the Big East. C-USA could survive losing Houston, SMU and UCF to the Big East since it would be down to nine schools. But if the MWC were to lose Boise State and Air Force, then it would be down to eight members in football (seven in all sports) and would likely pounce on the WAC's Utah State and San Jose State to replace those two schools.
Nice. BYU may have a Big East (BSU) and two MWC teams (SJ St, Utah St) on its independent schedule.

    • I really hope Utah State gets in the Mountain West, the hoops program deserves it (despite the easy schedule last year), and Gary is getting the program better and better slowly each year, and whether people like The Mtn. or not, better TV deal than what they have now.

      • lol no invite for BYU from the decimated Big East either.

What's going to happen when Peterson leaves or this quarterback leaves and Boise goes back to being a no account school?

I highly doubt Chris Peterson leaves unless it's to maybe Oregon, or a PAC-12 school. A lot of people said he likes what he has right now. Chris Peterson and Dan Hawkins made Boise State into a great program too with Ryan Dinwiddie, Jared Zabransky, and Taylor Tharp at QB. I have no doubts they'll be fine.

They are already told them no. BYU is going to the Big 12 and Peterson is going to take over for Bronco. Bronco will be the DC where he wants to be. This is all going down for the 2014 season after BYU plays its awesome 2013 Indy schedule.

Yeah. I think you've been right all along and BYU will get that Big 12 invite.

              • If Boise State joins the BE they just figured out a way to get a Autobid every year no matter what. They will dominate the BE West Division and be in the title game every year and more than likely win. Then it is off to a BCS bowl.. I like this.

I did not like the fact they joined MWC and then all the good programs left them sitting at the table alone. This is much better than MWC coverage and they will be able to be shown on ESPN again most of the year and get the payout which is much better then MWC even if it is just for football..

This is a major win for their football program if that is all that is joining. And they are able to go and join the Big West or WAC again (If they will take them) for all other sports. They give MWC the finger and I like it.....

As for BYU. I want them in the Big 12. BE is starting to warm to me since I think we can still have a good OOC schedule and play fairly good teams like Boise St. SMU, Houston who I see will only get better based off of this move (And they are on our Indy schedule as it is now).. But I think my judgement is also blurred by the anger I have towards the Hot Chick who left me standing at her door while she went with some other dude to the prom. In a desperate move I took the only person left who didn't have a date...

                • If you are starting to think that schools like SMU and Houston are good, then you are correct...your judgment is getting blurred.

Also, if you throw out Boise, what is the final average BCS ranking of all those other schools since 2008? I don't see the Big East retaining its AQ next year. So Boise will likely be back in the same boat in a non AQ playing teams all over the country as conference mates.

Hey. I've been in the Big 12 mission field for over 20 months, and been denied continually. Anything is looking hot right about now...

As for BE non-AQ status. I think you are wrong. I do not see them losing their status. Who is going to replace them? An sucky MWC, a equally sucky WAC, etc. I do not see the BCS going down to 5 conferences having AQ and leaving BE out.. It will only add more scrutiny to an already elite group. Since the Super-conference did not happen, I also do not see these other conference (SEC, Big 1G, ACC, Big12, PAC 12) able to request a 2nd entrance into the BCS bowls.. So BE will remain but they may have a more modified AQ status slightly different then the others allowing for the possibility to give one of the other conferences their spot if the BE sucks on any given year.. But with Boise St. being ranked so well, I see this not being an issue for them and still much better then the current shitty conference they are in. And the BE will still be better then all other Non-AQ and just a slightly lower level then the other AQ conferences..

                      • The only problem with the article is that it is based on Louisville and Cincy staying in the conference, which is a 50-50 shot at best. There was an article written on 10/31 that stated that the Big 12 is still considering L'ville as an 11th member despite Neinas' statements to the contrary. I'd bet that either of those programs would bolt at the first chance to join a better conference.

I'll find the link to the article I read and edit this post with it.

                        Here's the link: http://newyork.sbnation.com/rutgers-...ginia-big-east

Also, my prediction is that, if the Big 12 offers L'ville membership and ND votes not to bring it's non-football sports to the Big 12, Cincy will get an offer to be the 12th school. I say Cincy over BYU because that would finish off the Big East and get all of the teams over to the Big 12 for next year.

Also, here's another good article about The Big East and AQ status in the future:

Why wouldn't they go down to 5?

The way I see it is that with conference expanding beyond 12 teams, the BCS is likely to drop the 2 team limit in favor of a 3 team limit and will most definitely drop the big east.

I believe the BCS charter mandates six conferences.

Again, this seems to be based off of super-conferences. Only 1 conference has more then 12 teams (SEC). They are hesitant to allow 2 teams from one conference right now, they would never jump to 3.. As of right now superconferences are not a factor because they are not reality, and I am not sure they will happen.. Big1G has sat out of this circus and I am not sure they would ever move beyond what they have now...

BE is not going to be left out imo...

Doesn't the ACC have 14 teams now? Maybe I haven't been following this close enough.
