I realize the thought of hiring a coach from Utah State is an anathema to Ute Fans, which I don't really understand. It's worked out quite well for BYU.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Chow played at Utah when George Seifert was an assistant coach. That's where it began. People who matter know this.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostNo I'm not unaware.
Are you unaware that nobody associates him with being at Utah as an undergraduate when discussing his coaching credentials and accomplishments?
Chow is a BYU guy, he learned from LaVell. Utah has done well using BYU talent to improve it's program. It is a wise strategy."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Doesn't bother me one bit. It's the other major state university in Utah with a long history and I'm always happy to see them succeed. I think BYU fans like to look down on USU, though. Really? But you're the one with the "eek" smiley at the mention of Lavell's USU roots. BYU is happy to schedule USU in both basketball and football going forward. BYU is happy to hire coaches from USU as well as UofU, particularly those that have been ill-treated by their alma maters.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostDoesn't bother me one bit. It's obvious that UofU taps BYU heavily for coaching talent. I'd be interested in a list of Utah coaches hired from Utah State.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

The "eek" was supposed to reflect what I thought were BYU fan attitudes about their Aggie football heritage. My attempt at humor failed. This is not a new thing.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostReally? But you're the one with the "eek" smiley at the mention of Lavell's USU roots. I think people go where the talent is to find coaches. (University presidents too. It's pretty funny that BYU and Utah each have alums of the other school as their president.) In the late 60s and early 70s, coaching talent in Utah was from USU in the 50s and 60s. Now it seems to be coming from BYU 10-20 years ago.Last edited by LA Ute; 01-12-2011, 10:36 PM.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Very confusing. I don't know of any BYU fan that is ashamed of Lavell's USU roots. We are proud of his ties to the state. And Coach Bronco wants to foster close ties with the Aggies, insisting on home-and-home series into the future. We like USU so well that we took its colors.
I think what you are experiencing is called "transference" in psychological terms. Probably nothing serious, but you might want to get it checked out. I'm worried for you LA.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

ESPN says Chow's annual salary at UCLA was $500,000. With the difference in cost of living and lower profile program, I bet Utah can get him for half of that.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Not at all, the timing on this one seems to make sense.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIf Chow and Utah don't come to terms for whatever reason, myboynoah will dismiss the whole story as a complete myth.
It looks like Chow is out as OC at UCLA and they may want him to take another lesser position (QB coach maybe). Chow doesn't strike me as one to take a demotion, so I'm sure he's going to need a place to go. Utah fits that bill, so no doubt he has put out feelers. I'm sure his agent is telling Dr. Hill right now that Utah needs to pay PAC-12 prices and that $600,000 is the going rate.
Why are Ute Fans so sensitive about someone saying that Coach Kyle did not get a bonafide offer from Tennessee? Go back and review that thread. My analysis of the timing and sources of the reporting was flawless.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Someone said in chat over at uf.n his compensation package would be $750-900k, which would be surprising, but very encouraging.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostESPN says Chow's annual salary at UCLA was $500,000. Seriously? Is that annual? What does that mean, "compensation package?" How much of that would be salary? Or is it all considered salary? That would be quite the raise after being fired.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostSomeone said in chat over at uf.n his compensation package would be $750-900k, which would be surprising, but very encouraging.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
