  • Chow as Utah OC?!?!

I have learned Utah is expected to hire Norm Chow as OC and Tim Davis as offensive line coach. Hires could happen soon.

So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I learned recently that Chow would not leave Manhattan Beach.

A step ahead of me. I was talking to my dad on the phone when they announced it
"The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

"They talk about the economy this year. Hey, my hairline is in recession, my waistline is in inflation. Altogether, I'm in a depression."

"I like to bike. I could beat Lance Armstrong, only because he couldn't pass me if he was behind me."

If true, a good hire for Utah, IMO. Mostly because it allows Utah to migrate away from the spread offense to a traditional two back west coast. I think Utah will not be as able to outathleticize folks in the Pac-12 like they could against MWC foes. I also think that the Utah Offensive staff did not understand Urban's offense like Urban did. This gives Utah a situation where its staff will be gurus on its system and I think Utah can recruit this system better than it can a spread, at least when compared to Pac teams. Utah can get a few playmakers but not as many as Oregon or USC. However, Utah can get great power backs and tight ends right out of its backyard.

Clearly Norm has lost some luster the past few years and the leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old. But I think that the real benefit will be in being able to tutor the staff in a system that I think will better suit the Utes.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Be thankful he didn't mention that Chow's blood runs through his "instrument."

                    Sweet fancy Moses.

A whole new level in Utah-BYU incest. OK, that incest is all going one way, but still.

On some level I'm happy for Norm as I think it's a good stable spot for him to wrap up his career and I'm not sure there are many other places that want him right now.

I'm excited. The man has a play book deeper than any forest primeval.

Don't let his recent woes at UCLA fool you. Rick is an offensive guy and was a tinkerer. The Pistol was not really a Chow thing. I would be excited about this if I were a Ute fan.

Nah you're probably right - a lot of programs are out on the prowl for a 64-year old who has mostly failed in his most recent job.

But hey I'm not knocking the hire - it gives Utah a system, an identity and something stable. And someone who knows the PAC 12 going forward.

That's probably the biggest thing right there. Dude's been scheming against those teams for years. No one else on that staff really knows what to expect against Pac 12 teams, I would think.
