Utah gears up for spring practice

It's not about Brandon Davies but Ute fans will enjoy it.

    • A nice recognition of RES as a place to watch a football game:

25th is a much higher ranking than I would have expected.

I think most people would recognize RES as a place to watch a football game.

I imagine that will be the last top 25 ranking you'll see in quite a while...

I couldn't resist fixing that for you.

            • Spring ball starts tomorrow. I'm curious to see the developments at RB, DB, LB, and QB.

Any other CUFfers planning on attending practices? I'll probably see two or three of the scrimmages, plus the spring game.

I am curious to see how Blechen's move to LB works out, how the RB's do with a new system, the O-Line changes under Davis.

I might make the spring game, but I am still working on my schedule.

I heard Sitake on the radio this morning. He said Blechen was moved to LB because he is still growing and is now up to 220. Will be up to 235 eventually. Also "he has the heart and mind of a linebacker."

he also said that they did not want to suppress any natural weight gain that he would have as long as he does not lose speed/explosiveness. that is what I want to see. I want to see his same athleticism at 220 that he had at 205.

Blechen will be a two-time All-American by the time he's done at Utah. Against the run, he was already lights out as a strong safety, and his pass coverage ability is more suited for covering RBs and TEs. He wasn't the second-coming of Eric Weddle as a true frosh playing safety, but the big-play ability is definitely there. Plus, there's something supremely bad ass about LBs with single-digit uniform numbers.

i'm going to try and get to a couple, schedule permitting.

I hope we get the healthy 2009 version this year.

I was expecting that. But this is the guy I fear most heading into 2011. Too bad we missed out on his HS teammate at the last minute:

Yeah, the BYU loss isn't a conference loss so no big deal.
